York College remains on the road Tuesday (Apr. 1) for a CUNYAC matchup against John Jay College

PHOENIXVILLE, PA-- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball competed Saturday afternoon in a non-conference tri-match against Neumann University (13-10) and the University of Valley Forge (10-8), falling in four sets (25-20, 23-25 25-13, 25-18) versus the Knights before losing in straight sets to the host Patriots (25-16, 25-18, 25-21) inside UVF Gymnasium.

Match 1: Neumann 3, York 1 (25-20, 23-25 25-13, 25-18)

First Set Breakdown
  • Iteoluwakiisi Adegobye's ace gave York an 8-6 edge.
  • Neumann responded with a 4-0 spurt to go up 10-8.
  • The margin never fluctuated beyond two points, with the Cardinals leveling the score at 19 following a Knight attack error.
  • Kills by Trey Edmonds, Mason Fleisher, and Mitch Holland helped close out a 25-20 decision for Neumann.
Second Set Breakdown
  • Trailing 9-6, two spikes by David Heyliger, Jr. facilitated a 4-0 York burst to lead 10-9.
  • The following 21 points featured 11 ties and four lead changes, with the scoreboard reading 20-20.
  • A pair of smackdowns from Edmonds gave the Knights a 23-21 advantage.
  • The Cardinals netted four unanswered points, capped off by a kill from Sebastian Gomez to triumph 25-23.
Third Set Breakdown
  • Neumann raced out to a 7-0 beginning.
  • The Knights took their first double-digit lead (13-3) following a York attack error.
  • Behind 18-6, kills by Adegboye, Heyliger, Jr., and Vincent Agokei helped trim the deficit to eight (20-12).
  • Neumann pulled away, as a smackdown from Edmonds sealed a 25-13 result.

  • Adegboye totaled six kills.
  • Stanley Sanchez orchestrated the attack with 35 assists.
  • Ahmed Algendy (7) and Joseph Lebron (5) combined for 12 digs. 
For Neumann
  • Edmonds had a team-leading 11 kills and nine digs. 
  • Burns followed up with eight kills and two block assists.
  • Fleisher, Victor John, and JP Perdomo all chipped in with six kills. John contributed a match-best three solo blocks, and Fleisher served three aces.
  • Banaang distributed 27 assists.

The Knights had advantages in points (59-48), kills (44-41), aces (9-4), blocks (8-5), and digs (40-30), while both teams accumulated 35 assists. At the net, Neumann generated a .313 attack percentage on 96 swings, as opposed to York's .123 rate on 114 attempts.  

Match 2: Valley Forge 3, York 0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-21)

  • Toby Harris' kill stamped a 12-5 beginning for the Patriots.
  • Another Gomez smackdown put the score at 17-11.
  • The margin fluctuated between six and seven for the final 15 points, as Valley Forge sealed a 25-18 scoreline.
Third Set Breakdown
  • Kills from Anthony Testa and Toby Harris gave the Patriots an 8-3 edge.
  • The Cardinals answered with five consecutive points to lead 9-8.
  • Level at 13, kills by Gomez and Ian Mcintosh facilitated York's 5-1 spurt to go up 18-14.
  • Nathan Whisman's spike capped off a 7-2 charge for Valley Forge to take a one-point advantage (21-20).
  • Whisman served out the match with an ace at 25-21.
Leading the Cardinals 
  • Gomez spiked down a team-high 16 kills and had the squad's lone block.
  • Heyliger, Jr. tallied five kills and seven digs.
  • Adegobye recorded four kills.
  • Sanchez paced the offense with 23 assists and Lebron scooped up a team-leading eight digs.
For Valley Forge
  • Confer generated 12 kills (.550 percentage) and entertained a team-best seven digs.
  • Whisman added seven kills, two aces, and three block assists.
  • Harris produced seven kills and five digs.
  • Charlie Hoover distributed 24 assists.  
Inside the Box Score
The Patriots accumulated 37 kills at a .364 clip, while York managed 28 spikes with a .136 attack percentage. Valley Forge also finished with more assists (28-25), aces (8-1), blocks (8-1), and digs (30-27).
