NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College senior guard Christopher Smith was acknowledged Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MWBA) as a Men's Basketball Divisions II/III Player of the Week Honorable Mention selection for games played Dec. 8-14. This is Smith's first weekly laurel as a Cardinal, and the program's second-consecutive MBWA distinction, as Joshua Jackman landed on the Honorable Mention list for his performances the previous week (read more). 

The shifty guard controlled the pace for York in a 1-1 week, averaging 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.5 assists per game. Triumphing over John Jay College (Dec. 11) 68-53, Smith dropped a season-best 23 points, hauled in nine rebounds, distributed a team-high four assists, and sank seven clutch free throws. Battling Pratt Institute in a non-conference affair (Dec. 13), Smith contributed 16 points, four steals, and three rebounds. 

In nine contests this year, the Newburgh, New York native is second on the team with 12.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game, and leads the squad with 2.7 assists per game. Among CUNYAC leaders, Smith ranks 11th in scoring, eighth in rebounding, eighth in assists, and fifth in steals.
