Jonte Wallace was tabbed as the CUNYAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for games played Dec. 8-14. This is the program's second straight CUNYAC weekly laurel, as
Joshua Jackman (
read more) took home Player of the Week for his efforts the previous week.
Wallace showed flashes for the Cardinals in a 1-1 week, averaging 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.5 blocks per game. Helping defeat John Jay College (Dec. 11) 68-53, the freshman scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds, and contributed defensively with two blocks and two steals. Playing all 40 minutes in a competitive 86-78 loss versus Pratt Institute two days later, Wallace recorded his best game of the season, dropping a career-high 16 points (8-of-14 FG), hauling in seven rebounds, and totaling four blocks and three steals.
On the season, Wallace is putting up 9.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.7 steals through nine game. In the CUNYAC hierarchy, Wallace is second in steals and 10th in rebounding.
