www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball started strong Tuesday evening, taking the first set against University of Valley Forge (6-7). The Patriots rallied, however, claiming a four-set victory (14-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-16) in a non-conference battle from York College Gymnasium.
First Set Breakdown
- Two aces by Jaymie Mateo sparked a 6-0 burst to help York get an early 7-2 advantage.
- The Cardinals extended the edge to nine (14-5) following a 7-3 stretch.
- Madison Plaza's ace made the margin double-digits (18-8).
- York never let the lead get below eight points (20-12), as a Patriot setting error clinched a 25-14 scoreline.
Second Set Breakdown
- Zia Lefebvre capped a 7-2 beginning for York.
- Valley Forge surged back with an 8-2 spurt to go ahead by one (10-9).
- Level at 10, the Patriots continued their momentum, as Abigail Risi's kill finalized an 11-1 stretch to take a 10-point edge (21-11).
- A trio of Lefebvre smackdowns trimmed the deficit to six (23-17) before Valley Forge sealed a 25-17 result.
Third Set Breakdown
- Samantha Panameno's ace gave the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage.
- Trailing 7-5, the Patriots claimed four consecutive points to lead by two (9-7), while York responded with another 3-0 mini spurt to go ahead 10-9.
- Taking control, Valley Forge marched in front with an 8-1 charge, as Unique Castilho served two consecutive aces to cap off the run.
- Behind 24-15, the Cardinals saved five set points to trim the deficit to four (24-20), but ultimately could not complete the comeback.
Fourth Set Breakdown
- A Panameno kill got York within one (7-6).
- Clarissa Lockman's kill pushed the Patriots' edge to six (14-8).
- Two smackdowns from Lefebvre sparked a 4-0 burst to make it 14-12.
- Both squads traded 3-0 runs to keep the margin at two (17-15).
- Leading 19-16, a trio of aces from Hadassah Rivera sparked a 6-0 Valley Forge finale to settle the match.
Leading the Cardinals
- Lefebvre tallied a team-leading 16 points and chipped in eight digs and two block assists.
- Panameno contributed in all phases with a team-best 17 assists to go along with three kills, two aces, and eight digs.
- Jasmine Dias scooped up a team-high 17 digs.
- Plaza added three kills, two aces, and two total blocks.
- Chamiya Foy swatted down two attempts, and Mateo recorded nine digs.
For Valley Forge
- Lockman produced a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. She also provided a presence at the net with three solo blocks.
- Rivera controlled the defensive side as a libero, scooping up a match-best 28 digs. She also served six aces.
- Castilho totaled 11 kills and three aces.
- Mattayah Lyndaker distributed a match-high 25 assists and chipped in defensively with 11 digs.
Inside the Box Score
York swung 130 times and hit at a -.031 rate. The Patriots generated 109 attempts with a .073 attack percentage. Valley Forge also had the upper hand in points (49-43), kills (30-27), assists (26-21), aces (14-11), digs (64-52), and solo blocks (4-3).
