@yorkcardinals Women’s Volleyball commemorates 2025 senior class in CUNYAC battle versus John Jay

York College hits the road Thursday (Oct. 30) for a non-conference matchup at New Jersey City University

JAMAICA, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball wrapped up their 2025 home slate Tuesday afternoon, falling in straight sets (25-8, 25-10, 25-12) against the John Jay College Bloodhounds (18-3, 6-0 CUNYAC) in a CUNYAC home battle from York College Gymnasium.

Before opening serve, Madison Plaza (2023-25) was recognized during the annual Senior Day Ceremony for her dedication to York College Athletics.

First Set Breakdown 
  • A thunderous kill from Zia Lefebvre capped off a 6-3 Cardinal start.
  • The Bloodhounds responded by taking the following 15 points, buoyed by seven aces from Adrienne Xiao. 
  • A trio of service aces by Alex Overkamp sealed a 25-8 scoreline.
Second Set Breakdown 
  • Madison Mullan and Nina Bongiovanni both totaled two kills to spearhead a 7-2 John Jay start. 
  • A mini 6-1 run gave the Bloodhounds a double–digit advantage (13-3). 
  • York attempted to chip away, but could only trim the deficit to nine (14-5) before losing a 25-10 decision.
Third Set Breakdown 
  • John Jay raced out to a 10-1 beginning on the strength of three aces and three kills.
  • Trailing 16-4, two Lefebvre aces sparked a 5-0 stretch for the Cardinals to make it 16-9.
  • Putting the match away, the Bloodhounds utilized an 8-0 spurt to reach match point (24-9).
  • Fighting until the end, Lefebvre's kill and Samantha Panameno's ace brought the deficit to 12 (24-12) before an errant serve gave John Jay a 25-12 victory.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Lefebvre smacked down a team-leading five kills to go along with two aces and a match-high seven digs. 
  • Simranjit Kaur added a pair of kills.
  • Jaymie Mateo (5) and Shaday Torres (4) combined for nine digs. Mateo authored an ace as well.
  • Panameno distributed a team-best six assists, and Chamiya Foy swatted down a solo block.  
For  John Jay
  • Mullan led the squad with eight points (six kills and two aces).
  • Xiao, Theresa Schmitt, and Lizbeth Martinez all followed with seven points. Schmitt produced a team-leading four digs.
  • Bongiovanni and Jadyn Orava both spiked down five kills.
  • Caroline Guerney set up her teammates 15 times.
Inside the Box Score
York generated eight kills on 44 attempts for a .-227 attack percentage. The Bloodhounds authored 30 kills on 61 swings, resulting in a .344 rate. Additionally, John Jay recorded more points (53-13), assists (27-8), and aces (23-4), while the Cardinals led the defensive categories of solo blocks (1-0) and digs (17-16).
