@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer charges late, nets pair of second-half goals versus CCNY

York College concluded its season with its most wins since the 2022 campaign, signaling momentum for the program’s future under third-year head coach Brahim Chhab

JAMAICA, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer pushed late with a pair of second-half goals Wednesday afternoon, but could not overcome the City College of New York Beavers (2-9-4, 2-3-2 CUNYAC), falling 6-2 in a critical CUNYAC matchup from Randall's Island (Field 91). 

With the result, the Cardinals were eliminated from advancing to the CUNYAC Championship Tournament. York concluded its season with a 3-7-3 record — its most wins since the 2022 campaign — signaling continued momentum for the program's future under third-year head coach Brahim Chhab. The Cardinals also posted a 2-4-1 mark in CUNYAC play, their best conference record since the 2019 season.

First-Half Breakdown 
CCNY threatened early, as Konstantin Psomaras and Cristian Arellano struck the post in the opening 14:29. The Beavers broke through soon after, with Psomaras finding the back of the net in the 19th minute. Psomaras added the Beavers' second goal with a strike in the 37th minute. Kerneil Melius finished off the first-half scoring with 3:24 until intermission, giving CCNY a 3-0 advantage.

Second-Half Breakdown 
Ernest Bawilliam gave the Cardinals life 22:15 into the frame, scoring off a feed from Derick Aboagye-Frimpong. 47 seconds later, Bawilliam bagged another goal to bring York within one (3-2). Kerneil Melius swiftly restored the Beavers' two-goal edge with a goal at the 68:46 mark. Psomaras completed his hat trick in the 72nd minute to push the lead to 5-2. Bitoshoke Chakma's effort with just over four minutes before full time sealed the 6-2 result.

In addition to the final score, CCNY tallied more shots (32-7), shots on target (17-5), and corners (8-0). Alexander Cruz (1-1-1) returned in between the sticks for York, producing a career-high 11 saves. Rudy Guttierrez (1-2-1) produced three stops in the winning effort.
