Aiken paces @yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer with 22 saves in CUNYAC matchup against CCNY

York College plays host Wednesday (Oct. 22) to John Jay College in a Senior Day clash

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer continued CUNYAC play Wednesday afternoon, with a matchup against the City College of New York Beavers (2-6-2, 1-0 CUNYAC).  Goalkeeper Amaniya Aiken (2-7-0) kept York in the game with 11 first-half saves, helping the Cardinals trail just 1-0 at the half before ultimately falling 5-0 from York College Outdoor Athletic Complex. 

First-Half Breakdown
CCNY came out firing, forcing Aiken into seven saves in the opening 16:56 of action. The Beavers broke the deadlock 39 seconds later through Marjorie Placencia. Stephanie Gonzalez recorded York's first at the 28 minute mark, with her effort flying wide. Seeking a second goal, Aiken repelled CCNY's chances the rest of the frame, ending up with 11 first-half stops. 

Second-Half Breakdown
The Cardinals kept the score at 1-0 until the 60th minute, as Placencia slotted one home past Aiken to double CCNY's advantage. Elsa Gashi added a third Beaver goal at the 62:52 mark. Placencia finished off her hat trick in the 80th minute, and Gashi followed up with her second strike 5:11 from the full-time whistle, sealing a 5-0 result.

Overall, CCNY tallied 38 shots, 27 attempts on goal, and seven corner kicks. Behind the sticks, Aiken mustered 22 saves, the second most of her career, and Laila Issa (2-6-2) kept a shutout for the Beavers.
