@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer fires two second-half goals in CUNYAC clash against Hunter

York College returns to home turf Wednesday (Oct. 15) with a CUNYAC encounter versus John Jay College

NEW YORK--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer gave the Hunter College Hawks (4-5-3, 1-1-2 CUNYAC) a second-half scare with a pair of goals, but ultimately fell 7-2 in Saturday's CUNYAC road matchup from Randall's Island (Field 75).

First-Half Breakdown
Hunter jumped ahead early with a goal in the eighth minute and doubled its advantage when Bejhon Alerte scored at 23:42.  Jason Valeriano created York's first shot opportunity in the 27th minute, but his effort was saved by Hunter's goalkeeper Max Tsigalnitsky (3-3-2). Goals from Fernando Zuvela and David Zlobinsky pushed Hunter's advantage to 4-0 before halftime.

Second-Half Breakdown
The Cardinals threatened to start the stanza, recording six shots in the first 14:23. That pressure proved fruitful as Derick Aboagye-Frimpong found Jason Valeriano in the 64th minute to give York hope at 4-1. Coming closer, York trimmed the deficit to two (4-2) following Jamar Johnson's goal at the 80:34 mark. Patrick Irving dented the comeback hopes, netting in the 85th minute to push the margin to three (5-2). Before the final whistle, strikes by Abdullah Al Maghrabi and Saleel Eldin finalized the 7-2 result.

Hunter had the upper hand in shots (34-14), shots on target (16-9), and corner kicks (15-3). In goal, George Molina (2-4-2) totaled 10 saves, while Tsigalnitsky stopped seven shots.

Up Next
