Barrett’s double-double ignites @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball against Baruch

York College is back in action Friday (Jan. 24) at home against Hunter College in a CUNYAC bout

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball produced a trio of double-digit scorers Wednesday evening against the Baruch College Bearcats (9-8, 6-0 CUNYAC), but were unable to top the hosts in a 79-63 CUNYAC road setback at ARC Arena.

How it Happened
  • Rohan Singh's jumper at the 16:36 mark of the first half gave the Cardinals a team-high three-point edge (7-4).
  • Baruch quickly took control with an 11-0 burst, taking a 15-7 lead with 13:25 remaining. 
  • York got the game within two possessions (20-15) following Aidony Nivar's triple at 8:33.
  • In a defensive battle, the Bearcats held the Cardinals to six points in the final 8+ minutes of action, taking a 30-21 advantage into intermission. 
  • Singh's triple to open the second-half scoring trimmed the deficit to six (30-24), the closest York got the rest of the game.
  • Playing with a double-digit lead for the final 15:58, an extended 16-4 Baruch spurt opened up an 18-point margin (46-28) with 14:12 left in the second stanza.
  • Trading baskets, Baruch took its first 20-point lead (61-41) with Gerard Nicholson's layup at the 8:29 mark.
  • Attempting to make a run, the Cardinals trimmed the deficit to 14 (71-57) at the 4:31 mark but failed to inch closer, as Baruch finalized a 79-63 victory. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Brandon Barrett notched his eighth-career double-double, totaling 20 points (10-of-20 FG) and tying his career-high of 15 rebounds (seven offensive). The freshmen also paced the squad with two blocks.
  • Nivar added 12 points (4-of-7 3FG), one block, and one steal.
  • Demitrius Gould chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists. 
  • Singh had a team-leading two steals, and Michael Litchfield tied Gould's mark of five dimes. 
  • Elie Mondelus set a career high with five points (2-of-2 FG, 1-of-1 3FG) and four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.
For Baruch
  • Nicholson netted a game-best 22 points (8-of-19 FG, 3-of-8 3FG, 3-of-3 FT). 
  • Peter Douvres generated 20 points (7-of-12 FG, 6-of-10 3FG), four rebounds, and three assists. 
  • Jack Gordon contributed 12 points, eight rebounds, and a team-leading five assists.
  • Brandon Goldberg (15) and Trevor Coppin (10) combined for 25 rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Cardinals shot 36 percent (27-of-75) from the floor and 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from downtown. Baruch found better success at 43.9 percent (29-of-66) from the field and 42.9 percent (12-of-28) from beyond the arc. York owned a slight edge in rebounds (44-43), blocks (4-1), and points in the paint (32-30). The Bearcats sprung to life with 23 assists to York's 15, helping fuel a 16-4 edge in points off turnovers and a 12-4 margin in fast break points.
