www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball continued their CUNYAC slate Wednesday evening against the Baruch College Bearcats (7-9, 4-2 CUNYAC), dropping an 83-41 decision from ARC Arena.
How it Happened
- Alicia Gumbs' silky floater gave York a 6-5 advantage at the 5:56 mark of the first quarter.
- Capped off with a layup by Madison Thornton-Lewis, Baruch closed the stanza on a 17-2 burst to lead 22-8.
- Leading 27-10, the Bearcats utilized a 9-0 scoring spree to go up 36-10 with 6:37 remaining in the half.
- A layup from Precious Mitchell with 0:57 showing on the clock ended the half with Baruch claiming a 46-14 advantage.
- The Bearcats extended their edge to 42 (60-18) following Lola Idir's 3-point basket at the 4:36 mark of the third.
- Alicia Gumbs sparked a Cardinal 7-0 spurt to make the score 60-25.
- Baruch finished the frame on a 13-0 run, as Elissa Leung's buzzer-beating triple put the scoreboard at 73-25.
- York outpaced the Bearcats 16-10 in the final period, with Gumbs and Beautifull Earth combining for all 16 points.
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs tied a season-high with 28 points (9-of-20 FG, 3-of-7 3FG, 6-of-7 FT), and also contributed seven rebounds, three steals, and a game-best two blocks.
- Earth tied a career high with 15 tough rebounds, nine of which came off the offensive glass, while also recording seven points and a game-high, career-best nine steals.
- Jeana Clemons netted a career-best four points.
- Madison Plaza dished out a team-best three assists to go with one block and one steal.
- Tyla Hooks pulled down five boards.
For Baruch
- Idir scored a team-leading 15 points (5-10 3FG) to go along with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
- Leung produced 14 points (6-of-13 FG, 2-of-8 3FG) and four dimes.
- Mia Castillo almost recorded a triple-double with 12 points, eight rebounds, and a game-best nine assists.
- Mitchell picked a team-high 10 rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the field, 25 percent (3-of-12) from downtown, and 50 percent (8-of-16) from the charity stripe. The Bearcats canned 46.1 percent (35-76) of their field goals and 35.5 percent (11-31) from 3-point range. York outswatted the Bearcats 3-0, while Baruch owned the edge in rebounds (49-39), assists (27-6), and steals (17-14). Additionally, the Bearcats controlled the contest in paint points (36-18), points off turnovers (32-14), and bench points (29-2).
