www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â York College women's basketball continued CUNYAC action Friday evening with a road effort against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (7-9, 3-2 CUNYAC), dropping an 85-32 decision from West Quad Center Gymnasium.Â
How it Happened
- Tyla Hooks canned a layup for York in the game's first possession.
- The Bulldogs responded with 17 unanswered points to lead 17-2 with 55 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
- Alicia Gumbs rounded out the 17-4 first-period score with two free throws.Â
- Both squads traded baskets for most of the second frame, as Beautifull Earth's layup at the 2:42 mark made the score 27-10.Â
- Brooklyn got the score to a first-half-high 26 points (36-10) before Gumbs connected on a triple to cut the deficit to 36-13 entering intermission.
- A 32-9 third stanza for the Bulldogs extended their advantage to 46 (68-22) entering the final period.
- The Bulldogs finalized an 85-32 result by outpacing York 19-10 in the fourth quarter.Â
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs was York's top scorer for the 11th time this season, finishing the evening with 15 points (2-of-5 3FG, 5-of-6 FT) and added seven steals (career-high), six rebounds, three assists, and a block to her stat line.Â
- Earth continues to emerge as a key contributor for York, totaling nine points, 10 rebounds (four offensive), and two steals.
- Hooks ripped down eight rebounds to go along with two steals and one block.Â
- Madison Plaza dished out a team-best four assists and nabbed one steal.
For Brooklyn
- Brooklyn registered five double-digit scorers, led by 13-point efforts by both Dior Dorsey (six assists, five rebounds, three steals) and Audrey Waldvogel (four steals). Â
- Danae McMullen netted 12 points to go with nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
- Brianna Gutierrez and Cheyenne Castellano scored 10 points apiece.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals were limited to 25.6 percent (10-of-39) from the floor, 28.6 percent (2-of-7) from 3-point range and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the free-throw line. Brooklyn shot 41 percent (34-of-83) from the field, 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from long distance, and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs won the boards battle (53-31), scoring 23 second-chance points off 27 offensive rebounds. York owned the edge in blocks (2-0) while Brooklyn outplayed the Cardinals in steals (23-13), assists (24-8), and points off turnovers (51-4).
