@yorkcardinals Women's Basketball returns to home court with CUNYAC matchup against CCNY

York College hits the road Friday (Jan. 17) for a CUNYAC encounter against Brooklyn College

JAMAICA, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball returned to home court Wednesday evening against the City College of New York Beavers (1-8, 1-3 CUNYAC), falling 73-40 in a CUNYAC matchup inside York College Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • Alicia Gumbs got the contest started with a driving layup to put York up 2-0.
  • Level at four, Anais Rosa's three-pointer capped off a 6-0 burst for the Beavers at the 5:38 mark of the first quarter, giving CCNY a 10-4 lead. 
  • Beautifull Earth's layup made it a one-possession score to pull York within three (12-9).
  • CCNY finished the last 2:58 of the first on a 10-5 spurt, taking a 22-14 edge into the second frame. 
  • Ahead 24-16, the Beavers took control with a 10-0 scoring spree, extending their advantage to 18 (34-16) with 5:24 remaining in the half. 
  • Joscelyn Ramos closed out the scoring with a layup at the 2:09 mark to put CCNY up 44-18 at intermission. 
  • Madison Plaza's tip-in closed out a 12-10 third frame for York, trimming the deficit to 24 (54-30).
  • The Beavers outpaced the Cardinals 19-10 in the final stanza to triumph 73-40.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Gumbs netted a game-high 19 points in addition to recording three steals and three assists.
  • Earth utilized her long frame to record career-highs in points (8), rebounds (15), steals (6), and blocks (2). 
  • Plaza chipped in with seven points and two steals.
  • Michelle Mancuso added a career-high four points (2-of-3 FG) to go along with six rebounds.
For CCNY
  • Rosa paced the squad with 18 points (7-of-13 FG, 3-of-5 3FG), to go along with five rebounds, five rebounds, and three steals.
  • Ramos totaled 15 points (7-of-11 FG).
  • Kasia Morrison generated 12 points and a team-leading four steals.
  • Ashley Subervi notched a double-double with 12 points (6-of-8 FG) and 10 rebounds. 
  • Amanda Fischer also gathered a game-high 13 boards. 
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 25.4 percent (16-of-63) from the floor and 25 percent (7-of-28) from the charity stripe. CCNY hit shots at a 54.1 percent (33-of-61) rate, making three triples and four free throws. The Beavers won the boards battle (41-34), and moved the ball well for 25 assists. Both squads generated 12 steals. Additionally, CCNY accumulated 52 points in the paint and 26 points off turnovers.
