York College returns to home grounds Wednesday (Jan. 15) for a CUNYAC matchup against CCNY

BROOKLYN, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball generated over 90 points for the second consecutive contest but did not emerge victorious, falling a 92-91  heartbreaker in a back-and-forth CUNYAC road battle against Medgar Evers College (3-11, 1-2 CUNYAC) from Cougars Cave.

How it Happened
  • Jonathan Grimsley's layup for Medgar Evers knotted the game at nine with 15:18 remaining in the half.
  • Bryan Godette's layup capped off a York 9-2 run to take a first-half-best seven-point advantage (18-11).
  • A four-point play by Ryan Panagakos punctuated a 13-5 burst from the Cougars to lead 24-22 at the 10:07 mark. 
  • Over the following 6:43, there were four ties and seven lead changes as Ahmed Toure's layup put Medgar Evers up 44-43 with 3:24 showing on the clock. 
  • York ended the half on a 7-2 spurt to lead by four (50-46), with sharpshooter Aidony Nivar's 16 points paving the way.
  • The Cardinals matched their biggest advantage (57-50) with Rohan Singh's three-pointer at the 17:46 mark of the second half. 
  • Medgar Evers bounced back once again, as Grimsley's layup finalized an 11-3 charge to go up 61-60. 
  • Two free throws from Andre Evans Jr. at 12:55 gave the Cougars a team-best four-point edge (68-64).
  • York took command with a 10-2 spurt to take a two-possession (74-70) lead.
  • Brandon Barrett's layup with 6:39 showing on the clock maintained the Cardinals' four-point margin (78-74).
  • The final 6+ minutes were contested by one possession, and Evans Jr. nailed a triple to even the score at 88. 
  • Michael Litchfield responded with his own three-pointer to give York a 91-88 advantage with 2:06 remaining.
  • That scoreline was maintained until Grimsley's bucket at 0:17 to make it a one-point affair (91-90).
  • Following a Cardinal missed free throw, Grimsley hit a buzzer-beating floater to triumph 92-91.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Nivar recorded consecutive 20+ point outings, dropping 21 points (8-of-16 FG, 4-of-11 3FG) to go along with six rebounds, and a season-high two blocks. 
  • Barrett notched his sixth double-double of the campaign, netting 21 points (8-of-16 FG, 5-of-6 FT) and hauling in a team-leading 12 rebounds. He also rejected a team-best four shots. 
  • Litchfield contributed 18 points (6-of-12 FG, 4-of-8 3FG) and five assists. 
  • Singh posted a solid statline with 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.  
  • Demitrius Gould dished out a team-best six dimes.
For Medgar Evers
  • Grimsley paced the Cougars with 38 points (16-of-29 FG, 2-of-4 3FG), 17 rebounds, five assists, and two steals. 
  • Toure tallied 14 points (7-of-14 FG) and 16 rebounds. 
  • Evans Jr. tallied 14 points and a team-high six assists. 
  • Panagakos chipped in with 12 points (4-of-6 FG, 2-of-3 3FG).
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 45.1 percent (37-of-82) from the floor, 34.5 percent (10-of-29) from downtown, and 40 percent (8-of-20) from the charity stripe. The Cougars shot 41.9 percent (31-of-74) from the field, 36.7 percent (11-of-30) from beyond the arc, and 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the free-throw line. Medgar Evers claimed the rebounding edge (51-48), while York outpaced the Cougars in assists (25-23), steals (8-5), and blocks (6-2).
