JAMAICA, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer jumped ahead with a goal in the 21st minute, but were unable to capitalize on home field Saturday afternoon, falling 4-2 in a non-conference match up against the University of Valley Forge Patriots (2-2-0).
First-Half Breakdown
Both teams played even in the early going until
David Luna found the back of the net in the 21st minute by finishing a feed from
Kyler Gonzalez to put York in front. Moments later, Jeremiah Cobham leveled the score with a Patriot goal at the 33:27 mark that sent a tied game into the break.
Second-Half Breakdown
Valley Forge stormed out of the second-half gates with a pair of goals during a stretch of less than five minutes to build a 3-1 lead. Melvin Maldonado opened the scoring in the 57th minute while Brandon Perez found Ben Singizwa for the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute. York sliced the deficit 26 seconds later as
Stanley Sanchez slotted a pass to
Brandon Fednard, who sent a lazer past the outstretched arms of Juan Garcia Flores. Valley Forge added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute to settle the 4-2 final with a score by Braedon Recore.
Inside the Box Score
Outside of the scoreline, Fednard landed a match-high three shots on target as York owned the edge in shots (13-12) and corner kicks (8-4), while Valley Forge outplayed the Cardinals in shots on goal (6-5) and save (3-2). In between the Pipes,
Ahmed Algendy (0-2-0) turned away two shots as Garcia Flores made three saves.
