York College returns to the pitch Saturday (Sept. 7) with a non-conference showdown at home against University of Valley Forge

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer opened their 2024 campaign Wednesday afternoon on home field against the Mount Saint Mary  College Knights (2-0). After a close 2-0 halftime deficit, the Knights pulled away in the second frame, claiming a 7-0 victory over the Cardinals.  Following an extensive renovation to the Outdoor Athletic Complex on campus, Wednesday's fixture marked York's first home game since 2011.

First-Half Breakdown
  • Mount Saint Mary's Ryan Alvarado got on the scoresheet 48 seconds in, slotting one past Cardinal goalkeeper Ahmed Algendy (0-1-0).
  • Threatening to respond, Kyler Gonzalez perhaps had the best chance of the match for York, hitting the bar at the 1:24 mark after a ferocious strike. Gonzalez finished with a team-best three shots.
  • With the team's playing even, the Knights doubled their lead in the 35th minute as Ryan Keiser pounced on a cutback from Marco Mazzarelli.
Second-Half Breakdown
  • Quinn Tynan pushed MSMC's lead to three just 76 seconds into the frame, as he tapped home his original shot that cannoned off the post.
  • Tynan got his second goal about 11 minutes later to extend the scoreline to 4-0.
  • Mazzarelli added his name to the goalscorers in the 73rd after he latched onto a through ball by Tynan, and Elijah Duprey slotted home a penalty at the 75:27 mark to give the Knights a 6-0 edge.
  • Jeremy Burgos wrapped up the 7-0 result with a sizzling long shot into the bottom corner.
