JAMAICA, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer battled Wednesday against the Five Towns College Sound (3-2-1) in a non-conference home matchup from York College Outdoor Complex. After a tight 2-1 first-half, the Sound pulled away in the second frame to win 7-1.
First-Half Breakdown
After both teams played each other even for the opening 27 minutes, John Possanti broke the ice for Five Towns on a counter attack. Settling into the game, York's
Stanley Sanchez tested Sound keeper Jose Garcia with a shot from the 18-yard box at the 37:07 mark, and
Jamar Johnson forced a great tip save from Garcia 24 seconds later. From the ensuing corner, Sanchez equalized after he placed a fantastic
Kyler Gonzalez cross in the back of the net. Five Towns re-took the lead three minutes later after Sebastian Cuenca slotted home a penalty.
Second-Half Breakdown
Dominating from the restart, the Sound forced four saves from York netminder
George Molina in the first 12:30 before Angel Chavez added his a goal at the 58:23 portion of the match. With the result still in question, Edward Washington made it 4-1 for Five Towns in the 71st minute. Chavez and Christian Alvarez added a quickfire double to push the Sound's advantage to 6-1 with 14 minutes remaining. Gabriel Santos concluded the 7-1 scoring with a rocket into the top corner in the 89th minute.
Inside the Box Score
Outside of the final result, Five Towns dominated the play in shots (39-8) and shots on target (22-5). In goal, Molina (0-2-1) shunned a season-best 15 shots while Sound starting keeper Jose Garcia (3-2-1) recorded two saves.
