Neptune’s goal sparks @yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer against Old Westbury

York College continues its homestand Saturday (Sept. 14) with a non-conference display against Trinity Washington University

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer returned to action Wednesday afternoon to play host to the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers (1-3-0). The Cardinals closed out the first-half scoring, but could not overcome an early deficit en route to falling 6-1 in a non-conference decision.

First-Half Breakdown
The Panthers struck 1-0 nine minutes in as Jocelyn Forsythe curled a left-footed shot past York netminder Michelle Mancuso (0-2-0). Eleni Petri doubled Old Westbury's edge at the 19:33 mark, as she latched onto a pass from goalkeeper Kristen Gallagher (1-3-0) and found the net with a powerful right-footed strike. Petri then assisted Jocelyn Perez in the 24th minute to make it 3-0. Involved again, Petri tallied a first-half brace almost seven minutes later to extend the Panthers' lead to 4-0. A glimmer of hope for York in the 40th minute, Zaria Neptune weaved past two Panther defenders and her shot deflected into the net for her first goal of the campaign (fourth career).

Second-Half Breakdown
Petri got her hat trick at the 52:02 mark to make it 5-1. Adelia Slavinskaya got on the scoresheet in the 83rd minute after pounding on a pass by Forseth, rounding out a 6-1 finish for the Panthers. Neptune almost netted her second goal in the dying embers of the match, but her chip attempt from the top of the 18-yard box missed the goal by a couple of inches.

Inside the Box Score
Outside of the scoreline, Old Westbury owned the edge in shots (25-6), shots on target (11-2), and corners (10-3). Mancuso recorded five saves, while Gallagher saved one shot.
