York College closes out CUNYAC play Tuesday (Apr. 2) with a road contest at John Jay College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball culminated their CUNYAC home schedule Thursday evening against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (12-13, 7-6 CUNYAC). Fighting hard, the Cardinals were unable to overtake the visitors, losing a straight-set encounter (25-18, 25-21, 25-16) inside York College Gymnasium. 

First Set Breakdown
  • Armand Kaloshi's kill capped off a 10-2 start for Brooklyn.
  • York claimed the next-four points to trim the deficit in half (10-6).
  • The Bulldogs responded with a 5-1 run to regain an eight-point (15-7) advantage.
  • Battling back, Vincent Agokei's ace for the Cardinals made it a 17-12 scoreline.
  • Still ahead by five (20-15), Brooklyn essentially sealed the set with a 4-0 spurt to go up 24-15, before Kaloshi's kill closed the stanza at 25-18.
Second Set Breakdown
  • Two aces by Jayden McBride got the Bulldogs to open 5-2.
  • Brooklyn utilized an 8-4 stretch to take a 13-6 advantage.
  • A hat trick of kills by York's David Heyliger, Jr. buoyed a 5-0 run to slice the deficit to two (13-11).
  • A back-and-forth battle, each team shared the following 10 points as the scoreboard read 18-16.
  • Kaloshi's ace and a kill sparked a 22-17 lead before smack downs by Heyliger, Jr. and Agokei cut it to two points again (22-20).
  • Responding with authority, Aaron Siu gave Brooklyn a 25-21 triumph after his well placed kill.
Third Set Breakdown
  • Heyliger, Jr.'s kill knotted the period at five.
  • Taking control, the Bulldogs cruised ahead with a 13-0 blitz to lead 18-5.
  • Trailing 20-9, the Cardinals ended up cutting the deficit to six (22-16) before a pair of aces by Siu helped Brooklyn close out a three set triumph.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Heyliger, Jr. dominated with a match-high 19 kills on 37 attacks (.297 percentage) to go along with eight digs and two block assists.
  • Stanley Sanchez organized the attack with 26 assists.
  • Agokei added four kills and five digs.
  • Alexis Ramirez chipped in with four kills and six digs.
  • Ahmed Algendy continued his strong defensive season with a team-leading 11 digs.
For Brooklyn
  • Kaloshi nailed-down a team-best 10 kills on a strong .350 rate.
  • Aziz Abdusamiev tallied seven kills and a match-high three solo blocks.
  • Siu contributed eight kills and scooped up a team-leading 16 digs.
  • McBryde produced five kills and two aces.
  • David Lema marshaled the attack with 27 assists.
Inside the Box Score
York hit .071 on 98 attacks, while Brooklyn attacked at a rate of .216 on 97 swings. Brooklyn also had the advantage in points (49-36), kills (35-28), aces (10-2), assists (29-28) and digs (43-37). At the net, the Cardinals accumulated 10 total blocks as opposed to five for the Bulldogs.
