www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â York College softball continued their eight-game road trip Friday afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against the Purchase College Panthers (4-5), falling 14-2 and 15-0 from PC Softball Field.Â
Game 1: Purchase 14, York 2 (5 Inn.)
- York threatened in the opening frame with a two-out single by Michelle Mancuso. A throwing error by second baseman Jade D'Errico positioned Mancuso on third and Remedios Garcia at second, before Purchase's Abigail Lipkin (W, 1-2: 3 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, SO) escaped out of the jam by inducing a pop out by Faith Howes.
- The Panthers jumped ahead with a seven-run first inning. Kelly Jennings (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) broke the scoring ice with a two-run single off York's Remedios Garcia (L, 2-5: 3.1 IP, 6 H, 9 ER, 7 BB), and then scored three batters later on a error for what proved to be the game-winning run. Â
- Alicia Gumbs (1-for-2, R, RBI, SB) platted home Andrea Wright with a single to put York on the board in the second inning. Two batters later, Sofia Soric (1-for-3, RBI extended her hitting streak to five games with a RBI single to score Gumbs
- Purchase put the game out of reach in the bottom of the frame by tacking on seven more runs in three hits, two walks, one hit batter and two errors to close the scoring.
- The Cardinals continued to show fight in the third with three-straight base runners reaching safely. Singles by Garcia and Howes brought Wright to plate, who reached on an error by D'Errico. Likpkin recovered to retire the next-two Cardinals to secure Purchase's win.  Â
Game 2: Purchase 15, York 0 (5 Inn.)
- York placed its first of six base runners in the game with a first-inning walk by Mancuso. Â
- Purchase jumped out to a commanding 8-0 on Cardinal hurler Ayana Saavedra (L, 2-1: 4 IP, 12 H, 12 ER, 10 BB, SO) at the end of the first on four hits, five free passes and two costly errors. Jennings once again delivered the big blow with a two-run double to score Samantha Christopher and Tyler Salerno for the 2-0 lead.
- The Panthers had a six-run second inning with a three hits, two walks, two hit batters and one unfortunate error. Jennings highlighted the frame with a clutch double to drive in two to make it a 13-0 game.
- Gumbs was plunked to lead off the third, but was thrown out trying to steal second. Madison Plaza then working a walk and was stranded with back-to-back strikeouts by Soric and Lissenny Florentino.
- With one out in the fourth, the Cardinals failed to capitalize with the bases loaded. Mancuso was hit by pitch to reach base for the second time, while Samantha Panameno and Wright drew walks, before Jasmin Rodriguez struck out and Gumbs popped out to end the threat.
- Gumbs, Mancuso and Plaza have now reached base in fourth-straight games. Â
- Olivia Gof (W, 2-1; 5 IP, 4 BB, 11 SO) kept York out of the hits column by going the distance for Purchase's win.Â
