York College squares off Saturday (Mar. 16) against Baruch College in a CUNYAC home encounter

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball compiled their third-highest hitting percentage of the season Thursday evening, but were unable to push past the City College of New York Beavers en route to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 26-24) CUNYAC setback inside Nat Holman Gymnasium.  

First Set Breakdown
  • David Heyliger, Jr.'s kill helped give York an early 2-0 advantage.
  • After CCNY claimed the next three points, the Cardinals responded with their own 3-0 spurt.
  • Trailing 5-3, an extended 14-3 burst from the Beavers gave them a 17-8 lead.
  • Attempting a comeback, Heyliger, Jr smacked down a pair of kills down 21-10 to key a 4-0 mini-charge.
  • Brandon Green's kill for CCNY closed the set with a 25-15 victory.
Second Set Breakdown
  • The Beavers raced out to a 6-0 edge.
  • Trading the following 18 points, another kill by Heyliger, Jr. kept the deficit at six (15-9).
  • CCNY concluded the set swiftly after a 10-3 run.
Third Set Breakdown
  • A hat trick of kills by York's Alexis Ramirez kept the scoreline level at seven.
  • Behind 11-10, the Beavers claimed eight consecutive points to take a commanding 18-11 lead.
  • Roaring back, the Cardinals turned a 20-13 deficit into a 23-21 advantage buoyed by four kill shots by the one-time CUNYAC Player of the Week Honorable Mention.
  • At set point (24-23), kills by the Beavers' Green and Anton Oliveira-Nurse closed out a 26-24 comeback win.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Heyliger, Jr. went for a match-high 16 points on 14 kills to hit .103 on 39 swings.
  • Defensively, Heyliger, Jr. also paced the Cardinals with seven digs and a block, while Glenver Stuart also added 1.5 blocks of his own. 
  • Stanley Sanchez directed York's offense with 13 assists.
  • Ramirez chipped in five kills as Vincent Agokei followed with three. 
  • Ahmed Algendy added five digs. 
For CCNY
  • Oliveira-Nurse led the charge for CCNY with 15 points, producing nine kills, three aces and three blocks. 
  • Kyrylo Vysotskyy's 27 assists directed CCNY's offense.
  • Prabodh KC served three of CCNY's nine aces.  
  • Edwin Gayton scooped a match-high 12 digs. 
Inside the Box Score
York hit .039 on 77 attacks, while CCNY attacked at a .211 clip on 76 swings. CCNY also owned the edge over York in points (47-27), kills (32-23), aces (9-1), assists (29-19), blocks (6-3) and digs (28-18).
