@yorkcardinals Women’s Basketball opens four-game road trip at Brooklyn

York College returns to action Friday (Feb. 9) with a CUNYAC encounter at Baruch College

BROOKYN, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball began a four-game road slate Wednesday (Feb. 7) with a CUNYAC contest against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (14-8, 9-2 CUNYAC), falling 86-26 inside West Quad Center Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs opened the game on a 12-0 burst.
  • York responded with a 7-2 run as Imani Gibson netted five points during that stretch to make the score 14-7 at the 4:20 mark of the first quarter. 
  • Increasing the defensive effort, Brooklyn closed the period on a 13-1 spurt to lead 27-9.
  • Controlling the pace in the second frame, the Bulldogs took a 53-13 advantage into intermission.
  • Brooklyn claimed a 74-20 edge at the end of the third quarter.
  • Alicia Gumbs' layup for York capped off the scoring with 50 seconds remaining in the game.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Madison Plaza and Imani Gibson both led the team in scoring with nine points.
  • Gibson hauled in a team-leading 16 rebounds while Plaza contributed two steals.
  • Gumbs chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, and two steals. 
For Brooklyn
  • Destiny Drummond poured in a game-high 20 points (7-of-10 FG, 4-of-4 3FG).
  • Mary Dolgin recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Cheyenne Castellano and Sandra Diaz both dropped 11 points.
  • Suliat Afolabi added a game-best six assists.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 14.9 percent (7-of-47) from the floor, 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from beyond the arc, and 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs hit on 41.5 percent (34-of-82) from the field, and 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from long range. 

Beyond the final score, Brooklyn controlled the rebound (62-31) and assist (25-3) categories. The Bulldogs also outplayed York in transition, outsourcing the Cardinals (26-2) in points off turnovers and 28-0 in fast break points.
