www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball took the court for the second time in as many days Saturday afternoon to set a season-high mark for field goals before falling 77-42 to the Lehman College Lightning (7-15, 6-5 CUNYAC) in a CUNYAC road contest from APEX Arena.
How it Happened
- The Cardinals started off strong, as Madison Plaza's two layups gave them a 4-1 lead at the 6:33 mark.
- York took a 7-5 edge after Alicia Gumbs converted a 3-point play with 3:50 remaining in the first quarter.
- Lehman responded with a 7-0 run to lead 12-7.
- Ramatoulaye Diallo sank a layup with 1:45 left to end the scoring with the Lightning up 14-11.
- Holding strong on defense, Gumbs scored five consecutive points to trim the deficit to two (18-16) at the 5:11 point of the second quarter.
- A jumper by Lady Ozoria capped off a 10-0 burst for Lehman to take a 12-point edge (28-16).
- Imani Gibson's jumper for York made the score 32-20 at intermission.
- Leading 37-22, the Lightning outscored the Cardinals 24-9 in 8:21 to extend their advantage to 30 (61-31).
- York netted the first four points of the remaining stanza before Lehman closed out the scoreline at 77-42.
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs drained nine of York's season-high 17 field goals to lead the way with 25 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
- Gibson continued her streak of double-digit rebounds with 16 boards.
- Madison Plaza totaled eight points and three rebounds.
- Tyler Dazey grabbed five rebounds.
For Lehman
- Diallo recorded a double-double with 25 points (11-of-17 FG) and 10 rebounds, to go along with a game-high four swipes.
- Mush Muniru added 12 points (5-of-7 FG), three rebounds, and three steals.
- Jordyn Perez (3-of-10 3FG) scored 11 points.
- Ozoria and Myandra Duquesnay both set the tempo with a game-best five dimes.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 29.8 percent (17-of-57) from the field, 14.3 percent (1-of-7) from downtown, and 77.8 (7-of-9) from the free-throw line. Lehman connected on 46.4 percent (32-of-69) from the floor, 27.3 percent (6-of-23) from long range and 50 percent (7-of-14) from the charity stripe.
Although York hauled in more rebounds (42-39), Lehman maintained the edge in assists (22-6) and steals (18-5). The Lightning utilized 27 Cardinals turnovers to score 20 fastbreak points and 48 points in the paint.
