@yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball lifts lid on CUNYAC slate at Baruch

York College closes it four-game road trip Thursday (Feb. 29) with a CUNYAC matchup against Brooklyn College

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball opened their CUNYAC schedule Tuesday evening with a road meeting against the Baruch College Bearcats (5-6, 2-0 CUNYAC), falling in straight sets (25-11, 25-8, 25-10) inside ARC Arena. 

First Set Breakdown
  • A kill by York's Alexis Ramirez made it 3-2 Baruch early on.
  • Juancarlos Henriquez nailed down a kill to cap off a 10-1 burst by the Bearcats that gave them a 13-3 edge.
  • Trading points, a kill by Glenver Stuart trimmed the deficit to nine (17-8), the closest the Cardinals got the rest of the set.
  • Baruch closed the stanza on an 8-3 spurt to win 25-11.
Second Set Breakdown
  • Peter Gavroff's ace punctuated an 8-1 beginning for the Bearcats.  
  • Ramirez's kill at 12-6 gave the Cardinals momentum.
  • Asserting control, Baruch went on a 13-2 extended run to claim the period.
Third Set Breakdown
  • Following a 4-1 deficit, a smack down by Ramirez helped York level the score at 3 apiece.
  • Leading 6-5, Baruch springed on a 5-0 spurt to take a six-point edge (11-5).
  • Two-straight points by York cut the Bearcats' advantage to four (11-7).
  • A pair of kills by Gavroff made it a 15-7 Baruch lead.
  • In control 19-10, Gavroff served four aces to finalize a 25-10 victory. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Ramirez paced the attack with a team-leading five kills and 24 total attacks.
  • David Heyliger, Jr. added two kills and scooped up a team-leading five digs.
  • Stanley Sanchez provided seven assists.
  • Stuart and Mondesir each recorded one block assist. 
For Baruch
  • Gavroff contributed game-bests in points (16.5), aces (8), and digs (7).
  • Henriquez tallied nine kills and 16 attacks.
  • Ryan Oommen controlled the Bearcat offense with 31 assists.

York hit -.163 on 49 attempts for the match as Baruch attacked at a proficient .349 rate on 63 swings. Additionally, the Bearcats maintained the edge in points (51-9), kills (35-8), aces (12-0), blocks (4-1), assists (32-7), and digs (23-12).
