www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball completed their CUNYAC road slate Monday evening against the John Jay College Bloodhounds (16-7, 10-2 CUNYAC). After a competitive first half, the Bloodhounds turned on the jets in the final 20 minutes to earn a 77-38 victory inside The Doghouse.
How it Happened
- Alicia Gumbs sank a jumper for York with 4:42 remaining in the first quarter to level the score at six.
- Kamryn Hammond's triple for John Jay capped off a 9-0 burst to give the Bloodhounds a 15-6 lead.
- Abigayle Esdalile scored a bucket with nine seconds on the clock to end the first-quarter scoring to pull the Cardinals within seven (17-10).
- The Bloodhounds began the second period on a 13-2 blitz to push their lead to 18 (30-12) at the 3:52 mark.
- Charging back, York trimmed the deficit to 10 (30-20) after Imani Gibson's layup with 1:23 left until halftime.
- Natalie Simonds' jumper with 36 seconds left closed out the scoring to build John Jay's 13-point advantage (33-20).
- After giving up the first six points of the third stanza, York went on a 6-0 run to make it a 13-point game again (39-26).
- In the final 6:58, the Bloodhounds outscored York 16-5 to extend their edge to 24 (55-31) entering the fourth quarter.
- John Jay closed out the matchup with a 22-7 point differential in the final 10 minutes.
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs paced York with a game-high 21 points, and added seven rebounds and three assists and one steal to her totals.
- Gibson registered seven points, seven boards, and a team-best two steals.
- Madison Plaza chipped in with six points and four boards.
- Nadaysia Nivar swatted York's lone block.
For John Jay
- Hammond stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points (5-of-12 3FG) 10 rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block.
- Michaela Lattimore contributed 15 points (6-of-11 FG, 3-of-3 FT) and 10 rebounds.
- Simonds tallied 15 points (6-of-11 FG, 3-of-4 3FG), five rebounds, and two steals.
- Ashley Zoella finished with 11 points, four rebounds, four dimes, and one block.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 28.8 percent (15-of-52) from the floor and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the charity stripe. John Jay shot 40.8 percent (31-of-76) from the field, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc (8-of-22), and 87.5 percent (7-of-8) from the line.
The Bloodhounds controlled the rebound (48-38), assist (24-6), steal (9-3), and block (3-1) categories. Additionally, John Jay scored 22 points off 23 Cardinal follies and outscored York 34-12 in the paint.
