York College returns to the court next Friday (Feb. 9) with a home-opening non-conference matchup against University of Valley Forge

BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com)York College men's volleyball opened their 2024 campaign Thursday evening against the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (1-1), falling in straight sets (25-10, 25-16, 25-14) in a non-conference showdown from Pratt Arc.

First Set Breakdown
  • The Cannoneers scored the first three points of the match.
  • Battling back, a mini 5-3 spurt by York made the score 6-5.
  • Pratt went on an extended 13-2 burst to lead by 12 (19-7).
  • A kill by Pratt's Jason Raymond helped close out a 25-10 set victory.
Second Set Breakdown
  • Trailing 6-2, two kills by York's David Heyliger, Jr. helped spark a 6-2 blitz to level the score at eight.
  • Five Cannoneer kills helped spark an 8-2 scoring spree to take 16-10 edge.
  • The Cardinals responded with a 4-0 run to trim the deficit to two (16-14).
  • Buckling down, Pratt closed out the stanza by winning nine of the final 11 points for a 25-16 scoreline.

  • Making his return to the men's volleyball program, Heyliger, Jr. totaled team-highs in kills (6), total attacks (20), and digs (6). 
  • Alexis Ramirez debuted with two kills and four digs.
  • Sanchez and Glenver Stuart both contributed three digs.
  • Ahmed Algendy added five digs and set up the Cardinal attack with eight assists.
For Pratt
  • Raymond spiked down nine kills while attacking 14 times to go along with four aces.
  • Joji Kawamura compiled a team-best seven aces and six digs.
  • Wallace Hallot, Brooks Reid, and Max Wang all accumulated five points.
  • Reid paced the attack with a match-leading 17 assists.

York attacked at a rate of -.125 while the Cannoneers hit .125. Pratt controlled the pace of play in kills (23-9), total attacks (64-40), aces (18-0), and assists (20-8), while the Cardinals finished with the edge in digs (25-16).
