Barrett’s double-double leads @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball at LIU

York College continues its non-conference slate Tuesday (Dec. 10) at SUNY Old Westbury

BROOKLYN, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball faced the Long Island University Sharks (4-7) Wednesday evening, with the Division I opponent emerging victorious 103-53 in a non-conference encounter from Steinberg Wellness Center. 

How it Happened
  • Both teams traded baskets to open the game as Brandon Barrett put York on the board 2:16 in with a jumper after grabbing an offensive rebound to collect the second-chance points.
  • Moments later, Rohan Singh drilled a triple at the 14:55 mark to make it a 6-5 contest, the closest York got the rest of the way. 
  • The Sharks quickly took control, utilizing a 10-0 run to lead 16-5.
  • A couple of  layups by Barrett helped York stay within reach at 22-10.
  • Jamal Fuller's driving layup capped off a 9-2 burst to extend LIU's advantage to 19 (31-12) with 4:57 on the clock.
  • Singh's free throw with three seconds left closed out a 23-point half for the Cardinals, as they trailed 46-23 at intermission.
  • Jalen Lee's triple with 16:44 remaining in the game pushed the Sharks' edge to 30 (58-28).
  • Both squads essentially went point-for-point the next 5:19, with Aidony Nivar's three-pointer trimming York's deficit to 28 (70-42).
  • LIU reached the 40-point margin (85-45) at the 7:09 mark on a jumper by Shadrak Lasu.
  • The Sharks outplayed York 18-8 in the final minutes to claim a 103-53 victory.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Barrett impressed by controlling the paint, totaling team-highs with 15 points (6-of-11 FG), 12 rebounds (four offensive), and a career-best six blocks to produce his second-straight double-double.
  • Singh added 10 points (3-of-6 3FG) and dished out a team-leading five dimes.
  • Nivar scored 11 points. 
  • Michael Litchfield tallied four assists.
  • Elie Mondelus tied a career-high with two steals off the bench.
For Long Island
  • Lee led all scorers with 23 points (9-of-12 FG, 3-of-6 3FG, 2-of-2 FT). 
  • Jason Steele authored a double-double with 13 points (6-of-12 FG) and a team-leading 11 assists.
  • Blake Lander chipped in with 12 points (4-of-9 FG, 2-of-7 3FG) Terell Strickland produced a game-high 12 assists. 
Inside the Box Score
York shot 29.8 percent (17-57) from the field, 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from downtown, and 63.2 percent (12-19) from the charity stripe. The Sharks hit 56.4 percent (44-of-78) from the floor and made 40 percent (10-of-25) from 3-point territory. LIU held the advantage in rebounds (51-29) and assists (27-12). Dominating inside, the Sharks generated 68 points in the paint and 19 second-chance points.
