www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball returned to action Tuesday evening with a non-conference home affair against the Five Towns College Sound (3-0), falling 87-39 inside York College Gymnasium.

How it Happened
- A triple by Raine Mears at the 4:23 mark of the first quarter capped off a 16-0 start for Five Towns.
- Two free throws from Mears closed out a 27-8 quarter for the Sound.
- Jeana Clemons got on the board for York with a jumper to make the score 31-13 with 7:46 remaining in the half.
- Five Towns responded with an extended 14-1 burst to lead by 31 (45-14) at the 3:02 mark of the second period.
- Ending the half strong, Alicia Gumbs spearheaded a 6-0 stretch, and ultimately a 9-6 mini run for York to trim the deficit to 28 (51-23) at the break.
- The Sound utilized a 14-2 spurt to extend their advantage to 40 (65-25) with 3:44 remaining in the third quarter.
- Gumbs canned a triple to cut the lead to 35 (65-30), and Madison Plaza's end-of-quarter three-pointer showed 69-33 on the scoreboard.
- Five Towns outplayed York 18-6 in the final frame to win 87-39.
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs paced York's attack once again with a game-high 24 points (5-of-13 FG, 13-of-18 FT), to go along with team-highs in assists (3) and steals (3). The star guard tied a career-best in free throws made and set a personal record with 18 attempts.
- Plaza added nine points (4-of-11 FG).
- Widmaelle Drouillard and Tyla Hooks both recorded a team-leading seven rebounds, while Beautifull Earth pulled down five.
For Tive Towns
- Mears totaled a team-best 22 points (9-of-11 FG, 3-of-3 FG) and gathered 11 rebounds.
- Talaya Guirantes totaled 21 points (9-of-18 FG) and 10 rebounds.
- Danica Robles stiffed the stat sheet with 17 points (6-of-8 FG), nine assists, six rebounds, and six steals.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 25 percent (11-of-44) from the floor and added 15 points from the free-throw line. Five Towns connected on 42.9 percent (33-of-77) of its field goals, shot 75 percent (15-of-20) from the charity stripe, and canned six triples. Additionally, the Sound claimed advantages in rebounds (41-29), assists (27-6), and steals (16-7). Five Towns lived in the paint on the evening, generating 54 paint points, 30 points in transition, and 26 fast break points.
