www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball opened a four-game road stretch Tuesday evening with a convincing 87-82 non-conference victory over the Manhattanville University Valiants (3-4) inside Kennedy Gym.
How it Happened
- With both teams playing each other close early in the first half, a triple by Manhattanville's John Ranaghan leveled the score at 11.
- Ahead 18-16, York utilized a commanding 13-2 burst to go 31-18 at the 7:15 mark.
- Coming back into the game, Thomas Mullin's triple trimmed the Valiants' deficit to five (37-32) with 3:05 remaining in the stanza.
- A jumper by Demitrius Gould closed out a 43-38 halftime advantage for the Cardinals.
- Trailing 47-39, Manhattanville went on a 12-0 spurt to lead 49-47 at the 14:11 mark.
- Running its offense to perfection, York scored 17 points on the next seven offensive possessions to take an eight-point edge (64-56) with 10 minutes remaining.
- Aidony Nivar's layup with 8:13 showing on the clock gave the Cardinals their first double-digit margin (69-59) of the second frame.
- Rohan Singh converted a layup to give York a second-half high 11-point advantage (76-65).
- Rallying quickly, an 8-2 burst from the Valiants trimmed the deficit to five (78-73) with 4:24 left.
- Leading 81-77 at the 2:58 point of the contest, tough defense and six clutch free throws helped the Cardinals finalize an 87-82 scoreline.
Leading the Cardinals
- Playing all 40 minutes, Singh paced the squad offensively with a season-high 23 points (6-of-12 FG, 4-of-6 3FG, 7-of-10 FT) to go along with five rebounds and a team-leading five dimes.
- Brandon Barrett stuffed the stat sheet with a career-high 19 points (7-of-11 FG, 5-of-6 FT), 15 rebounds, four assists, and a game-best four blocks.
- Nivar tallied 14 points (5-of-11 FG, 2-of-6 3FG), six rebounds, and two steals.
- Benjamin Grant chipped in a season-high 11 points (5-of-6 FG) and eight rebounds.
For Manhattanville
- Andrew Saint-Louis netted a game-best 27 points (10-of-19 FG, 6-of-8 FT).
- Andrew Melillo scored 16 points (5-of-11 FG, 5-of-7 FT) and led the Valiants in rebounds (7) and assists (5).
- Benjamin Merritt added 13 points (5-of-10 FG, 3-of-8 3FG).
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals had their shot working on the evening, shooting season-highs of 52.5 percent (32-of-61) from the floor, 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from downtown, and 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the charity stripe. Defensively, York held Manhattanville to 44.1 percent (30-of-68) from the floor and 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from beyond the arc. In addition to the impressive shooting display, the Cardinals also had the advantage in rebounds (48-24), assists (17-10), and points in the paint (18-2).
