Gould drops career-high 18 points to lead @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball against #8 NYU

York College opens a four-game non-conference road stretch Tuesday (Nov. 26) against Manhattanville University

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball finalized their non-conference home schedule Saturday afternoon against the No. 8 ranked New York University Violets (4-0), falling 112-56 inside York College Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • York's Brandon Barrett got off to a solid start, hooking one home at the 15:34 mark to give the Cardinals their sixth point of the afternoon to pull within eight (14-6). 
  • Over the following 11:40, the Violets went on a 39-0 mega burst to take a 53-6 advantage. 
  • Malakai Clark sank four free throws for the Cardinals helped make the score 61-13 at intermission. 
  • A driving layup from Hampton Sanders gave NYU a game-best 62-point (80-18) advantage. 
  • Demitrius Gould canned a trio of jumpers to spark an 11-5 burst for York, making the score 85-29 with 11:31 remaining. 
  • Gould's triple at the 6:03 mark trimmed York's deficit to 52 (97-45).
  • Trading buckets, a hook shot from NYU's Aidan Clarke closed out the scoring at 112-56. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Gould poured in a career-best 18 points (8-of-12 FG) to go along with six rebounds, four assists, and a team-leading two steals. 
  • Barrett added eight points and six rebounds. 
  • Michael Litchfield totaled nine points and three assists off the bench. 
  • Rohan Singh dished out a team-high five dimes and Bryan Godette matched the six-rebound high.
For NYU
  • Brock Susko swished home a game-high 20 points (6-of-9 3FG) and added eight rebounds. 
  • Bryan Moussako 14 points (14 points), Sanders (12 points), Zay Freeney (11 points), and Matt Volkening (11 points) rounded out the Violets' double-digit scorers. 
  • Josh Menard authored a game-leading eight assists, and Tristan How collected a game-best seven rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 33.8 percent (22-of-65) from the field and 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from deep. NYU scorched the nets to the tune of 54.8 percent (40-of-73) from the floor and 52.1 percent (25-of-48) from downtown. The Violets owned the edge in rebounds (44-27) and assists (33-16). Both teams recorded 30 paint points, and the Cardinals outgained NYU 17-14 in transition.
