@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball generates trio of double-digit scorers against WestConn

York College continues its non-conference home slate Saturday (Nov. 23) versus #8 New York University

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball returned home Tuesday evening for a non-conference home affair against the Western Connecticut State Wolves (2-3), falling 91-62 from York College Gymnasium.
 
How it Happened
  • A triple by C.J. Riley got the Wolves out to a 9-3 lead.
  • Aidony Nivar's three-point basket cut York's deficit to five (17-12) at the 12:46 mark of the first half.
  • WestConn responded with a 13-3 burst to take a 15-point edge (30-15).
  • Rohan Singh's tough downtown connection made it a 34-22 scoreline with 3:03 remaining in the first half.
  • Nick Boyce's three-point play gave the Wolves a 20-point advantage (45-25) at the buzzer.
  • Trading blows, Nivar's triple made it a 12-point matchup (57-45) with 12:16 on the clock, the closest York got the rest of the contest.
  • A quick 8-0 spurt gave WestConn its 20-point lead again (65-45).
  • Leading 75-56 with 4:44 remaining, the Wolves closed on a 16-6 run to finalize the 91-62 result.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Nivar paced the squad with 19 points (6-of-12 FG, 5-of-9 3FG) to go along with six rebounds.
  • Michael Litchfield added 13 points (4-of-7 FG, 3-of-4 3FG) off the bench.
  • Singh and Demitrius Gould both recorded four assists.
  • Brandon Barrett secured a game-high 12 rebounds (six defensive, six offensive).
For WestConn
  • Jourdan Belcher (7-of-10 FG, 4-of-4 FT) and Tayejon Lynch (7-of-11 FG, 2-of-4 3FG, 2-of-4 FT) both poured in 18 points. Lynch also had a game-best five steals.
  • Nick Boyce produced a solid all-around game with 14 points (5-of-9 FG, 4-of-5 FT), five rebounds, and five assists.
  • Keeshawn Jones dished out a team-leading six dimes and Malik Cole secured a team-high seven rebounds.

The Cardinals shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the floor and a season-best 40 percent (10-of-25) from deep. WestConn shot 54.5 percent (36-of-66) from the field, 50 percent (6-of-12) from downtown, and canned 13 free throws. Beyond shooting percentages, the Wolves won the rebound (37-33) assist (27-16), and steal (15-4) battles, ultimately turning 20 Cardinal follies into 22 points. WestConn also dominated paint scoring, totaling 52 points in the paint.
