York College travels Saturday (Nov. 16) for a non-conference road encounter against Drew University

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball commenced their 2024-25 home schedule Tuesday evening against the William Paterson University Pioneers (1-0), dropping a 93-75 non-conference decision inside York College Gymnasium.
 
How it Happened
  • York's Rohan Singh buried a triple for the game's first bucket. 
  • A layup from William Paterson's Shane Geene leveled the score at 11. His layup was part of a 10-0 burst to give the Pioneers a 19-11 advantage. 
  • William Paterson took a 15-point lead (35-20) following Londen Pope's trifecta at the 8:20 mark of the first stanza. 
  • Trying to claw back, two freebies from Malakai Clark cut the deficit to 11 (40-29) for the Cardinals. 
  • Two free throws by Delano Hyde gave the Pioneers a first-half high 16-point edge (45-29) with 3:09 remaining in the half. 
  • A buzzer-beating three by Jack Gobel closed the score line at 51-37. 
  • Brandon Barrett layup for York trimmed' the deficit to 13 (64-51) at the 13:02 mark in the second frame.
  • Delani Hyde's fastbreak layup pushed William Paterson's edge to 18 (71-53).

Leading the Cardinals
  • Aidony Nivar paced the squad with a game-high 20 points (7-of-18 FG, 5-of-13 3FG), to go along with four assists and two steals.
  • Singh tallied 19 points (7-of-17 FG, 3-of-8 3FG) and a team-leading five dimes. His 19 points were his most ever as a Cardinal.
  • Clark chipped in with eight points, four assists, and two steals.
  • Barrett hauled in a game-high 15 boards (12 defensive, 3 offensive).
For William Paterson
  • Neftali Valentin netted a team-best 17 points (7-of-16 FG) and gathered 10 boards.
  • David Martinez added 15 points (5-of-13 FG, 3-of-6 3FG) and nine rebounds.
  • Andre Wells controlled the offense with a game-leading 11 assists. 
  • Geene scored 13 points (6-of-7 FG), Gobel poured in 11 (4-of-8 FG, 2-of-5 3FG), and Hyde added 10 (4-of-4 FG) to round out the double-digit scorers.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 37 percent (27-of-73) from the field, 31 percent (9-of-29) from downtown, and 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the charity stripe. William Paterson connected on 52.9 percent (37-of-70) of its field goals, 36.4 percent (8-of-22) of its triples, and made 11 free throws. Beyond the final score, the Pioneers had the advantage in rebounds (44-37), assists (26-20), and blocks (6-8), while York recorded 11 steals to William Paterson's eight. The Pioneers owned the inside, outsourcing York 52-26 in the paint and 14-7 on second chance opportunities. In transition, William Paterson had a 21-12 edge in points off turnovers.
