Algendy notches 10 saves for @yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer at Lehman

York College remains on the road Saturday (Oct. 19) for a CUNYAC showdown against Brooklyn College

BRONX, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer continued their CUNYAC road schedule Wednesday evening with a contest against the Lehman College Lightning (5-6-2, 3-0-2 CUNYAC), dropping a 5-0 decision from South Field.

First-Half Breakdown
Lehman wasted little time to challenge the Cardinal defense with a shot by Mohamed Ali Sogoba just 25 seconds in that sailed high.  York broke into the shot column at 12:53, when Michael Martey fired wide right to test Lehman goalie Andres Barajas (5-4-2).  After two more shots that landed off target and a trio of corner kicks, Lehman delivered what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 19th minute with Brandon Dennis finding Alexander Agyemang for the tally.  The Lightning continued to push with four more attempts before Bright Takyi doubled Lehman's advantage off a feed from Cameron Dennis in the 35th minute.  The Cardinals attacked the goal 40 seconds before intermission, but were unable to convert as Jose Recio's attempt hit the left post.

Second-Half Breakdown
York placed all three of its attempts in the final 45 minutes on target, but could not break through.  In the 58th minute, Jamar Johnson was turned away by Barajas in the 58th minute.  The Lightning fired seven shots at York netminder Ahmed Algendy (0-3-0) to start the second half until Dalton Charlton found the back of the net at 67:58.  Lehman made it a four-score match just 2:13 later with a score by Ian Lanter.  After assisting on the fourth goal, Amidou Kone added to the lead in the 76th minute to settle the scoring.  York had opportunities late in the game with shots by Abdul Seck (81st minute) and Malal Diallo (88th minute).

Inside the Box Score
Lehman claimed the edge in shots (30-5), shots on target (5-3) and corners (11-1). In goal, Algendy finished with 10 stops to reach double-digit saves for the ninth time in his career and first since September 28, 2022 (vs. Hunter College).  Barajas made three saves to earn Lehman's clean sheet.
