Desinor drops 24 points to carry @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball against CCNY

York College hits the road Saturday (Feb. 3) for a CUNYAC showdown against Lehman College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball charged late against the City College of New York Beavers (14-7, 7-3 CUNYAC), but could not complete a stunning comeback Tuesday evening, falling 78-73 in a CUNYAC matchup on home court inside York College Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • A 3-pointer by CCNY's Jordan Williams gave the Beavers a 17-9 start in the opening 6:39 of action.
  • Responding quickly, the Cardinals charged back with a 12-5 burst to trim the deficit to one (22-21) at the 10:06 mark.
  • A triple by Chris Stone capped off CCNY's 8-0 spurt to take a 30-21 advantage.
  • CCNY held a double-digit edge for the final 5:33 of the first half, as Elijah Patterson's free-throw with less than a second on the clock made the score 46-30.
  • The Beavers took their first 20-point lead (52-32) as Sakhi converted a fastbreak layup at the 18:19 mark of the second period.
  • For the next 11 minutes the Cardinals were unable to pull within 15 points, as Ricardo Dixon's paint finish with 7:19 remaining seemingly kept the game out of reach at 71-53.
  • Trailing by 18, the Cardinals went on a 10-0 blitz to make it an eight-point game with 4:07 left on the clock.
  • A layup by Tyres Desinor made it a two-possession game (76-70) with 1:27 showing.
  • Down five (76-71) with the ball, York's Abdul Seck turned the ball over with 14 seconds left to all but seal CCNY's 78-73 victory. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Desinor showed up once again, scoring a game-high 24 points (10-of-17 FG, 4-of-6 FT) to go along with nine rebounds and three steals.
  • Olawale Kila added 14 points (5-of-8 FG, 4-of-6 FT), 10 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks to record his 11th double-double of the season (19th career).
  • Rohan Singh chipped in with 14 points (4-of-8 3FG).
  • Tafari Jerome scored nine points (2-of-5 3FG) off the bench.
  • Seck had a solid contribution off the pine with three swipes and a team-leading four assists.
For CCNY
  • Sakhi led the Beavers with 19 points (7-of-13 FG, 2-of-3 3FG, 3-of-5 FT) and seven dimes.
  • Dixon narrowly missed out on a double-double, totaling 18 points (9-of-16 FG) and nine rebounds. Dixon also contributed a pair of steals and blocks.
  • Justin Morety recorded 11 points, six dimes, four rebounds, and three steals. 
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 40.9 percent (27-of-66) from the field, 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from long range and 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the free-throw line. CCNY hit 48.5 percent (32-of-66) from the floor, 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from the charity stripe. 

Outside of the scoreline, the Beavers controlled the rebound (37-34) and assist (24-17) categories, while York finished with more steals (13-10). Both teams netted 17 fast break points, but CCNY turned 15 York turnovers into 23 points, as opposed to the Cardinals' 12 points off turnovers.
