Tyres Desinor was recognized Monday with a Player of the Week Honorable Mention citation as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) released its weekly awards for games played January 22-18. Scoring in double-figures the past four games, Desinor claimed his first CUNYAC weekly laurel for the Cardinals.
Specifically, the senior shined in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals, averaging 17.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game. In a tight 74-68 victory at home to John Jay College (Jan. 23), Desinor dropped a season-high 23 points (10-of-19 FG, 3-of-5 FT), to go along with 13 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. Using soft touch and his speed on the perimeter, Desinor had nine clutch points in the final five minutes to secure the victory. Facing Medgar Evers College (Jan. 26), the forward scored 12 points (6-of-11 FG), hauled in eight rebounds, dished out four dimes, and swatted away two shots in a 22-point victory.
In eight games since his re-entry into the starting lineup (Jan. 3), the Brooklyn native is averaging 12.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 45.6 percent (41-of-90) field-goal shooting. Desinor ranks top-5 on the team in rebounds (2nd), blocks (3rd), steals (4th), and field goal shooting (4th). Compared to CUNYAC competitors, Desinor places in the top 25 in points (25th) and rebounds (19th) per game.
Desinor and the Cardinals look to win their fourth-consecutive game Tuesday (Jan. 30) evening with a CUNYAC home battle against the City College of New York Beavers (13-7, 6-3 CUNYAC) starting at 7 p.m. inside York College Gymnasium. Tune in with live stats and video by visiting
