Desinor’s double-double effort leads @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball in CUNYAC matchup against Baruch

York College ties the laces Friday (Jan. 19) in a CUNYAC road encounter against Hunter College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball completed its two-game homestand Wednesday (Jan. 17) with a CUNYAC encounter against the Baruch College Bearcats (10-7, 6-0 CUNYAC). The Cardinals raced out to an early lead but were unable to keep pace as Baruch cruised to an 86-62 victory inside York College Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • Tyres Desinor sparked York early on by scoring seven-straight points to put the Cardinals in front, 7-5.
  • Level at nine, Baruch went on a 10-3 burst to lead 19-12 at the 12:05 mark of the first half. 
  • Abdul Seck's 3-point play conversion got York within a point (21-20) with 9:34 remaining.
  • Putting on a defensive show, Baruch exploded with a 19-4 burst over the next 8:02 to take a 40-24 edge. 
  • Olawale Kila's driving layup pulled York within 12 (40-28) at intermission.
  • The Bearcats pushed their advantage to 20 points (51-31) after Devin Nicholson drained a jumper with 17:30 showing on the clock.
  • The deficit remained around the 20-point margin until the 11:17 mark, where a quick 5-0 Cardinal spurt trimmed the score to 61-46. The 15-point deficit was the closest the Cardinals got the rest of the second frame.
  • Answering the call, the Baruch utilized a 7-0 surge to open up a 68-46 lead.
  • The Cardinals were unable to put together another scoring spree as Baruch outscored York by two (18-16) the rest of the way. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Desinor recorded his first double-double at York, totaling 17 points (8-of-18 FG), and 10 rebounds (six offensive), to go along with two blocks (team-high) and one steal. 
  • Kila contributed another double-double (eighth of season, 17th career) display with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds (eight offensive).
  • Aidony Nivar scored nine points (3-of-7 3FG) to go along with a team-leading four assists and two steals.
  • Bryce Haynes tied his career-high with seven points (3-of-7 FG). 
  • Seck contributed seven points (3-of-6 FG) off the bench. 
For Baruch
  • Devin Nicholson poured in a game-high 28 points (12-of-15 FG, 3-of-4 3FG) and added seven rebounds.
  • Jehmel Fair tallied 14 points and hauled in a team-best nine boards.
  • Gerard Nicholson added 11 points (5-of-8 FG).
  • Emil Purisic dished out a team-leading five dimes and Sayeed Osorio paced the Bearcats in steals (3). 
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 32.4 percent (24-of-74) from the floor, 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from beyond the arc, and 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the free-throw line. Baruch shot 51.4 (36-of-70) from the field, 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from 3-point distance, and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the charity stripe.

While both teams totaled 42 rebounds, the Cardinals crashed the offensive backboards (20-10), leading to a 14-9 advantage in second-chance scoring.   Baruch held the edge over York in assists (23-15), steals (11-5), and blocks (5-3).  Additionally, the Bearcats possessed the upper hand in paint points (44-26), fast break scoring (23-9), and points off turnovers (11-9).
