York College returns to home court January 12 against Brooklyn College in a CUNYAC bout

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball tied the laces up Wednesday in a CUNYAC road matchup against the City College of New York Beavers (9-6, 2-2 CUNYAC). After a back-and-forth first half, the Beavers pulled away for a 91-51 victory inside Nat Holman Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • York took a 10-6 lead after Aidony Nivar canned a jumper at the 15:48 mark.
  • Yassine Sakhi's layup punctuated a quick 8-0 burst to give CCNY a 14-10 advantage.
  • Trading baskets, a Rohan Singh jumper with 7:01 remaining in the first half gave the Cardinals their final lead of the quarter (22-21).
  • CCNY responded with a 6-0 charge to go up 27-22 with 5:27 showing on the clock. 
  • The Cardinals leveled the score at 27 following a triple by Singh.
  • Sakhi converted a transition layup at the buzzer to give the Beavers a 31-27 edge at intermission.
  • A 3-point play by Sakhi just over four minutes into the second frame capped off an 18-2 blitz by CCNY to go up by 18 (49-31).
  • York got as close as 13 (53-10) as Bryce Haynes drained a pair of free throws at the 10:53 mark.
  • The Beavers went on a 38-11 scoring spree to put the game out of reach over the final 10+ minutes of action.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Singh poured in a team-high 12 points (5-of-10 FG) and added four rebounds.
  • Olawale Kila totaled his sixth double-double of the season (15th career) with 10 points (5-of-13 FG) and a game-high 13 rebounds, to go along with five assists. 
  • Tyres Desinor scored nine points (3-of-4 FT) while Austinson Cooke tallied seven points (3-of-6 FG) and a career-best seven rebounds off the bench.
  • Tafari Jerome matched Kila's total of five dimes. 
For CCNY
  • Sakhi paced the Beaver attack with a game-best 32 points (14-of-18 FG, 1-of-2 3FG, 3-of-3 FT).
  • Edward Beqiri stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points (6-of-11 FG), seven rebounds, six assists, three steals, and two blocks.
  • Ricardo Dixon contributed 13 points (5-of-8 FG, 3-of-3 FT), a team-leading 11 boards, and a game-high three blocks.
  • Chris Stone dished out a game-best seven dimes. 
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals connected on 32.8 percent (21-of-64) from the field, shooting 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from downtown and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the charity stripe. CCNY had corresponding values of 55.6 (40-of-72) from the floor, 20 percent (2-of-10) from beyond the arc, and 90 percent (9-of-10) from the free throw line.

Alongside the scoring differential, the Beavers maintained the advantage in the steal (16-4) and block departments (4-0). CCNY turned 19 Cardinal turnovers into 31 points, and also had a 66-24 edge in points in the paint, and an 8-0 edge in fast break scoring.
