@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer opens CUNYAC slate with Baruch showdown

York College continues CUNYAC play Saturday (Sept. 30) in a road matchup against City College of New York

BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer opened their CUNYAC slate Wednesday afternoon against the Baruch College Bearcats (2-4, 1-0 CUNYAC), but were unable to claim the result, falling 12-0 from Aviator Field.

First-Half Breakdown
  • Arman Celebi started the match hot for the Bearcats, intercepting a ball in York's half before slotting one past Cardinal netminder Ahmed Algendy (0-3-1) in the fifth minute.
  • Celebi doubled Baruch's advantage at the 15:37 mark, powering a low driven shot past Algendy.
  • Turning to the provider 39 seconds later, Celebi found Julio Ramirez for a 3-0 edge.
  • The Cardinals found the target in the 21st and 22nd minutes as Marvin Mondesir forced Baruch goalie Jon Lesaga (2-2-0) into two point blank saves.
  • An end to end half after goals, Baruch held a slight advantage in shots (10-8) after the first period. 

Second-Half Breakdown
  • Andrew Kinal netted a second-half brace as his tap at the 67:54 mark extended the Bearcats lead to five.
  • Baruch added onto the scoreline with a goal from Zyde Nawabi and a quickfire double from Daniel Fomenko to make it 8-0 in the 73rd minute.
  • Two more goals from Celebi and strikes by Jonah Corney and Nawabi ended the scoring in the afternoon at 12-0. 
Inside the Box Score
Outside of the goals, Baruch controlled the proceedings in terms of shots (31-13), shots on target (21-6).  Mondesir landed three of his team-leading five shots on target.  In between York's sticks, Algendy recorded four saves while George Molina totaled five.  

For the Bearcats
Lesaga (2-3) totaled four saves and Adil Lalicic finished off the goalkeeping efforts with two stops.
