ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer continued non-conference play Wednesday when they took the field against the Bard College Raptors (5-0), but could not keep pace with the hosts, falling 11-0 from Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex.
First-Half Breakdown
- The Raptors capitalized on an early penalty kick as Ben Steketee reached the back of the net to convert 69 seconds in, proving to be the game-winning goal.
- After Cardinal netminder George Molina (0-2-0) turned away a shot by Steketee at the 3:20 mark for his first of six first-half saves,
- Sam Gerber snuck one past the defense to double Bard's advantage 1:56 later.
- Gerber then made it a three-score game with his second tally of the match in the 18th minute.
- Six different Raptors contributed to the 7-0 lead at intermission as Bard outshot York (25-0).
Second-Half Breakdown
- York's defensive attack regrouped to limit the Raptors to just one shot in the opening 14 minutes of second-half play.
- Zach Burmeister then broke the scoring ice in the second stanza to extend the lead to eight in the 60th minute.
- Ahead by nine, Henry Skeltis registered back-to-back scores for Bard in the 77th minute to settle the final.
Inside the Box Score
Outside of the scoreline, the Raptors owned the edge in shots (41-0), shots on target (21-0) and corner kicks (4-0). In between York's pipes, Molina stopped a season-high 10 saves while Gavin Hersey (5-0-0), Ruemer Fletcher, and Kincade Avery combined for Bard's clean sheet.
