York College returns to the pitch Wednesday (Sept. 20) for its home opener in a non-conference tilt against CCNY

NEW YORK--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer closed out a three-match road trip Sunday afternoon, falling to the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (2-2) by the count of 12-0 in a non-conference matchup from Randall's Island Field 10.

First-Half Breakdown
  • Pratt attacked the Cardinal goal, firing three shots at netminder Kresanta Jones (0-2-0) before breaking through at the 11:25 mark on a score by Emma Pratt.
  • A little over 10 minutes later the Cannoneers doubled their lead when Annabella Russell fed Siena Sujitno.
  • The Cannoneers netted three more goals by the 30th minute, as Kat Thomsen found the net and Sujitno completed her hat trick.
  • Sujitno closed out the first-half scoring in the 42nd minute with a powerful shot to make the score 6-0.
  • For York, the Cardinals broke into the shot column at 18:07 as Zaria Neptune's attempt sailed high. Melanie Guerrero then landed a shot on target 29 seconds later to challenge Pratt goalie Emma Gaspari (2-1).  
Second-Half Breakdown
  • In the final stanza, Pratt netted six goals on 11 shots.
  • Sujitno opened the second-half scoring in the 54th minute to collect her fifth goal of the game.
  • Thomsen went off during a stretch of 13:03, registering four-straight tallies to extend the advantage to 11 before assisting on Emma Pratt's second goal to settle the final score. 

"It was a tough one. We showed potential for the first 20 minutes. We were controlling possession and keeping them in their defensive third. We have to work on being able to consistently perform well over the full 90 minutes."-said head coach Winston Willabus

Inside the Box Score
The Cannoneer defensive unit held York without a shot for the final 56:74 of play as Pratt finished with the edge in shots (34-2), shots on goal (21-1), and corner kicks (9-0). In between York's posts, Jones tied a career-high with eight stops, while Gaspari and Sophia Szabos combined for Pratt's clean sheet.
