@yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer opposes Old Westbury

York College travels Sunday (Sept. 17) to face Pratt Institute in a non-conference road encounter

OLD WESTBURY, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer battled Thursday afternoon but were unable to overcome a high-scoring offense by the host SUNY Old Westbury Panthers (3-2), falling 13-0 in a non-conference matchup at Panther Park.

First-Half Breakdown
  • Alyse Then put the hosts in front in the 5th minute following a pass from forward Mia Almonte.
  • Old Westbury doubled its advantage at 8:24 after a goal by Jessica Pedroza.
  • Leading 3-0, the Almonte Then partnership struck again in the 13th minute after Then slotted home a pass from Almonte.
  • The Almonte got her name on the scoresheet at the 16:25 mark to extend Old Westbury's edge to 5-0.
  • A finish from Jasmine Roldan made the score 6-0 before Then completed her hat trick twelve minutes before the interval.
  • The Panthers pushed the advantage to 8-0 before halftime after a goal from Jennifer Pasquariello.
Second-Half Breakdown
  • At the 45:47 mark, Emelin Cajamarca's blocked attempt broke York into the shot column.
  • Following Panther goals in the 65th, 73rd, and 81st minutes, Zaria Neptune landed a shot on target that was turned away by Old Westbury goalie Evelyn Martel.
  • York attacked the goal in the 83rd minute but could not reach the back of the net as Cajamarca's shot hit the post.
  • Almonte netted her fourth goal of the match in the 86th minute to settle the final.

Outside of the scoreline, the Panthers outwork York in shots (26-3), shots on target (21-1), and corners (3-1). In net, Kresanta Jones (0-1-0) stopped a career-high eight saves for York, while Natalie Intrieri (2-2) and Evelyn Martel combined for Old Westbury's clean sheet.
