JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's tennis competed Friday in a pair of non-conference home matches, falling 5-4 to the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles (1-3), and 9-0 to the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (5-2) at York College courts.

"We were extremely happy for the guys because they saw that all that hard work for the past few months is paying off. And now it has made them more eager to get better with more practice and matches."-said coach Kathleen DeRienzo

Competing against Saint Elizabeth, on the No. 3 doubles court, partners Shavar Rowe and Abimael Deliska picked up their third win of the campaign, defeating Zavier Bell and Jeremiah Boger 8-1. Rowe continued his momentum in his No. 4 singles match, outlasting Marr Perez-Aguirre in a super tiebreak. Also picking up wins were Abubakar Khamis and Firdaus Abdulai. Khamis dispatched Bell 6-0, 6-0 on the No. 5 singles court, and Abdulai also triumphed in a super tiebreak, netting his first victory this season. Almost prevailing, Jagvir Hoonjan fell in No. 2 singles to Michael Cadavid in a heartbreaking 10-2 super tiebreak. 

Overall, the four matches York claimed were the most since a 7-2 victory against Albertus Magnus College in April, 2019.

Khamis added to his excellent display on the No. 3 singles court, as powerful forehands and sustained rallies helped him snatch York's lone point against the Cannoneers.
