www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â York College softball was unable to overcome early deficits Friday afternoon in a CUNYAC doubleheader against Brooklyn College Bulldogs (6-12), falling 16-0 in game one before a 17-0 setback in the finale from Brooklyn College Field.
Game 1: Brooklyn 16, York 0 (5 Inn.)
- Brooklyn jumped ahead early by sending 12 batters to the plate in the opening inning to take a 9-0 edge.Â
- Melanie Millan's two-run single in the bottom of the second frame gave the Bulldogs a 12-0 advantage.
- Yesileidy Paulino smacked a triple in the third frame, tacking on two runs to Brooklyn's total.Â
- Sofia Soric (L, 1-8; 3 IP, 8 H, 12 BB, 16 R (11 ER), 1 SO) limited Brooklyn's damage to two runs in the bottom of the third, punching out Danielle Guzzardi looking.
- The Bulldogs tacked on two extra runs in the fourth, led by Sandra Diaz's solo home run.
- Nayelly Rojas (1 IP, 1 BB) came in relief for Soric, retiring three hitters without allowing an earned run.
- In the fifth inning, Rojas worked a leadoff walk, which proved to be the Cardinals' sole baserunner.
- Threatening to score a run, Rojas was caught stealing third base to seal the game.
- Guzzardi (W, 6-12; 5 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 ER, 8 SO) tossed a no-hitter to lead Brooklyn to victory.
- Brooklyn outmatched York in hits (8-0), walks (13-1), and stolen bases (6-0).
- Defensively, York committed three errors as Brooklyn left one runner on base compared to zero for the Cardinals.
Game 2: Brooklyn 17, York 0 (5 Inn.)
- The Cardinals put the pressure on in the top of the first when Rojas singled and stole second, but Guzzardi struck out Andrea Wright to end the rally.
- Punctuated by a three-run triple from Millan, the Bulldogs brought 12 batters to the plate and scored nine runs in the opening inning
- On the strength of three hits, two walks, and an error, Brooklyn plated four runs in the second frame, pushing the lead to 13-0.
- Pitching the second game of the doubleheader, Guzzardi  (W, 7-12; 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 8 SO) continued to toss the ball well, retiring the Cardinals in order with two strikeouts in the top of the third.
- Jendry Maria capped off a four-run home half of the third for Brooklyn with a line drive two-run double.
- Threatening with a runner on second base after Wright reached on an error and stole second, Guzzardi fanned Tyler Dazey to escape the top of the fourth.
- Rojas made quick work of Brooklyn's lineup in the fourth stanza, inducing weak contact and retiring the Bulldogs easily.
- Alicia Gumbs singled and stole second in the fifth for the Cardinals, but was left on base following a strikeout and groundout which sealed Brooklyn's win.
- Rojas (L, 0-6; 4 IP, 7 H, 11 ER, 13 BB) went the distance for the fifth time this season in defeat for York.
- The Bulldogs finished with the edge in hits (7-2), extra-base hits (2-0) and walks (13-0), while York outplayed Brooklyn in stolen bases (3-1).
- York extended its CUNYAC-leading tally in stolen bases to 48.Â
- In the field, York committed four miscues to Brooklyn's one.
- York abandoned three runners on the basepath while Brooklyn left one on.
