Fullerton’s 33 points powers @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball past CCNY, 90-81

York College closes out its home slate Friday (Feb. 10) with a CUNYAC bout against Hunter College on Alumni Appreciation / Senior Day

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.comYork College men's basketball dominated crunch time Wednesday evening to notch a 90-81 CUNYAC road win over the City College of New York Beavers (14-9, 9-3 CUNYAC) inside Nat Holman Gymnasium.  The triumph bounced CCNY out of a three-way tie for the top spot in the CUNYAC standings to give York a split of the season series with the Beavers after falling 74-68 in the January 13 matchup.

How it Happened
  • York took an early 16-8 lead after Devine Chisholm's jumper at the 15:05 mark of the first half.
  • Dashaun Galloway's triple capped off a quick 8-0 CCNY burst to even the score at 16 with 13:32 remaining. 
  • Both teams traded baskets for over 11 minutes, and Olawale Kila's layup at the 1:47 mark of the frame gave the Cardinals a 32-30 lead.
  • Daniel Piszczatowski's layup with 30 seconds left closed out a 6-0 run to send CCNY into the break with a 36-32 cushion.
  • Up 50-45, the Beavers went on a 10-2 spurt to extend their lead to a game-high 13 points (60-47) with 11:39 remaining in the second half.
  • The Cardinals stormed back with a 12-2 spurt to cut CCNY's advantage to 62-59.
  • Trailing 67-59, Terrell Fullerton rattled off seven points as York erased its deficit by using a 15-1 scoring spree to jump ahead by six with 3:49 showing on the clock.  
  • York twice extended its lead to 12 points (84-72) in the remaining 44 seconds while outscoring CCNY by 17 (31-14) in the final 8:09 to secure the nine-point win. 

"I just tried to push my team to a victory. We have had each others back all year and they have given me confidence and trust since day one. I knew this was a big game and I did not want to let them down.  We left it all out there and came out with a HUGE team win." said Fullerton

Fullerton produced his fourth double-double of the season for the Cardinals, finishing with a season highs of 33 points (10-of-23 FG, 12-of-15 FT) and 14 rebounds in 38 minutes. Kila posted 13 (4-of-10 FG, 5-of-6 FT) points and 14 rebounds to manufacture his eighth double-double of the season. Chisholm added 15 points (5-of-11 FG, 4-of-5 FT), six rebounds and three assists, while Tavon Price netted 12 points (4-of-8 FG, 4-of-4 FT). Micaiah Goosby chipped in with 11 points (5-of-6 FG), six boards and two blocks. 

Piszczatowski scored 15 points (7-of-11 FG) to pace CCNY. Amir Assani followed with 13 points (6-of-14 FG) points and 10 rebounds. Ricardo Dixon chipped in with 12 points (4-of-6 FG, 4-of-5 FT) off the bench. Yassine Sakhi went for nine points (4-of-15 FG) and seven assists.  

York shot 46.3 percent (31-of-67) from the field, 25 percent (2-of-8) from 3-point range, and 81.3 percent (26-of-32) from the free-throw line. By comparison, CCNY landed 41.5 percent (34-of-82) from the floor, 30 percent (6-of-20) from beyond the arc, and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the charity stripe. 

The Cardinals grabbed a season-high 52 rebounds to own a +16 edge off the glass while scoring 17 second-chance points off 16 offensive boards. CCNY held the edge in assists (21-11), steals (9-3), blocks (3-2), bench scoring (30-6), and points off turnovers (22-14).  

"We have to have playoff intensity and physicality from this point on and every rebound is huge for our club."-Gist asserted
