Kila drops career-high 38 on home court as @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball challenges Drew

York College picks up its dribble next on January 3 with a CUNYAC matchup at John Jay College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball closed out their non-conference slate Saturday afternoon on home court, battling the Drew University Rangers (10-0). A back-and-forth showdown for the first 30 minutes, the Rangers pulled away for a 110-90 victory inside York College Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • Trading baskets early on, Micaiah Goosby made a jumper to put the Cardinals up 9-8.
  • Drew responded with a 9-2 burst to take a 18-12 advantage at the 13:10 mark.
  • Trailing 29-22, the Cardinals went on an extended 11-3 charge to lead 33-32 with 5:17 remaining in the half.
  • York took a team-high five point first-half lead (44-39) after Rohan Singh netted a triple with 1:37 showing on the clock.
  • Goosby sank two freebies with 11 seconds left to pull York within two (48-46) at intermission.
  • Olawale Kila restored the Cardinals' five-point advantage (55-50) after making a layup at the 3:18 into second-half play.
  • Peso Crump  connected on a 3-pointer to regain Drew's lead at 57-55.
  • Playing behind for the final 15:39, Kila's layup at the 8:37 mark got York as close as five (76-71).
  • Drew outscored York 34-19 over the final 8:04 to pull away with the victory. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Kila dazzled with a career-high 38 points (16-of-18 FG, 6-of-7 FT) to go along with eight rebounds.
  • Singh added 11 points (3-of-6 FG, 4-of-4 FT), dished out four assists, and had a team-best three steals.
  • Tafari Jerome netted 10 points (4-of-7 FG) and distributed a team-leading five assists.
  • Goosby followed with nine points, seven rebounds and three assists. 
  • Aidony Nivar grabbed seven rebounds and Tyres Desinor scored seven points off the bench. 
  • Abdul Seck produced five assists and nabbed two steals.
For Drew
  • Andrew Turco (6-of-14 3FG) and Papie Roberts (6-of-14 FG, 4-of-7 3FG, 4-of-4 FT) both paced the Rangers with 20 points.
  • David Musial chipped in with 12 points (5-of-7 FT), a team-high seven boards, and four steals.
  • Roberts and Josh Kline both totaled six assists, and Kline also scored 12 points (5-of-8 FG, 2-of-4 3FG).
  • Anderson James contributed 11 points (4-of-9 FG) and four steals. 
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 58.3 percent (35-of-60) from the field, 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from beyond the arc, and a season-high 94.1 percent (16-of-17) from the free-throw line. The Rangers shot 46.9 percent (38-of-81) from the floor, 34.0 percent (17-of-50) from 3-point territory, and 94.4 percent (17-of-18) from the stripe. 

Outside the scoreline, Drew held the edge in assists (28-23), steals (16-7), and blocks (2-0). York dominated in the paint, outscoring the Rangers (54-38). Though both teams were tied in the rebounding department (32-32), Drew capitalized on transition opportunities, scoring 32 fast break points and 39 points off turnovers.
