www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball concluded their three-game road trip Friday evening, taking on the
Western Connecticut State University Wolves (9-1) in a non-conference showdown. Holding an 11-point lead at intermission, WestConn cruised to a 111-67 decision over the Cardinals in a non-conference affair inside William A. O'Neill Athletic & Convocation Center.
How it Happened
- Both teams traded baskets early on before Rohan Singh's triple gave York a 10-9 edge 5:06 in.
- WestConn responded with nine-unanswered points to lead 18-10 with just over 11 minutes left in the period.
- Making shots and stringing together stops, the Wolves took a first half-high 17 point advantage (38-21) with 4:46 remaining in the first half.
- With 10 seconds showing on the clock, Aidony Nivar's 3-pointer trimmed the Wolves' lead to 11 (49-38) at the break as the Cardinals finished the half on an extended 17-11 run.
- A blazing second-half start, WestConn went on a 22-2 burst to push its lead to 31 (71-40) at the 13:52 mark.
- The scoring margin never got below 29 points the rest of the way, as the Wolves outscored the Cardinals 62-29 in the second half on their way to victory.
Leading the Cardinals
- Olawale Kila recorded his 12th-career double-double with a team-high 15 points (6-of-6 FT) and 13 rebounds (six offensive).
- Tafari Jerome scored nine points and canned a team-leading two triples.
- Nivar finished with nine points and three steals.
- Tyres Desinor tallied seven points, five rebounds (three offensive) and three steals off the bench.
- Austinson Cooke added six points (3-of-4 FG) and posted career-highs of six rebounds and two blocked shots.
- Singh chipped in a pair of steals.
For WestConn
- Alfonso Stokes scored a game-best 18 points (7-of-12 FG, 2-of-5 3FG).
- Jaheim Young poured in 17 points (6-of-10 FG, 2-of-4 3FG) and blocked two shots.
- Cameron Gallon netted 13 points (5-of-11 FG), gathered in eight rebounds, and tallied a game-high six steals.
- Jeremiah Williams distributed five dimes.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals shot 35.3 percent (24-of-68) from the field, 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from beyond the arc, and 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the free-throw line. The Wolves shot 49.4 percent (42-of-85) from the floor, 32.1 percent (9-of-28) from 3-point territory, and 72 percent (18-of-25) from the stripe.
York also converted 16 Wolve turnovers into 15 points. WestConn outplayed the Cardinals in rebounds (50-45), assists (18-13), blocks (5-3), and steals (24-9). The Wolves turned 32 York miscues into 41 points. Down low, WestConn held the advantage in paint points (64-32) and second chance points (25-13).
