www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball closed out their 2023 season Thursday evening against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (2-20), falling in straight sets (25-11, 25-7, 25-14) in a non-conference matchup from Cougars Cave. Despite the result, York's two victories are the most since 2019.
First Set Breakdown
- Jasmine Vega got the Cardinals out in front 1-0 following her kill.
- Trailing 3-2, Medgar Evers went on a quick 10-2 run stamped with two aces by Britonya Lloyd.
- Helped by an ace from Andrea Wright, York responded by winning three-consecutive points to make the score 12-8.
- Two kills by Lloyd and Jennifer Metra pushed the Cougars' advantage to 17-9.
- Ahead 18-11, Medgar Evers claimed the final seven points to seal the set.
Second Set Breakdown
- The Cougars raced out to a 7-1 lead.
- Following two-straight points won by York, Medgar Evers went on a 9-0 scoring spree facilitated by the serve of Aliyah Chapman to go up 16-3.
- York tallied seven points as the Cougars closed out the second stanza on a 6-0 spurt.
Third Set Breakdown
- Four kills and three aces sparked another quick opening for the Cougars as they led 7-1.
- Chipping away, the Cardinals sliced their deficit in half after a Shamonie Miller kill to make it a 10-5 game.
- After alternating points for a while, the Cougars pushed their advantage to a set-high of 12 (23-11) following a 4-0 run.
- Miller smacked down the final kill of her collegiate career at 23-14 before Medgar Evers won the final two points of the set.
Leading the Cardinals
- Miller paced the Cardinals with a team-leading 10 digs and eight kills on 17 swings to hit .294.
- Wright served the team's lone ace.
- Nadaysia Nivar added four kills and seven digs.
- Samantha Panameno distributed a game-high 12 assists.
For Medgar Evers
- Lloyd totaled a match-high 14 points (nine kills, five aces) to go along with 10 digs.
- Chapman chipped in with six aces and two kills.
- Raine Williams contributed seven aces and six assists.
- Quiara Brye Bey quarterbacked the Cougars to six points as well.

York attacked at a rate of -.029 while the Cougars hit .180. The Cardinals outplayed Medgar Evers in digs (34-33) while the Cougars finished with the edge in points (38-18), kills (19-17), aces (10-1) and assists (16-15).
The Cardinals graduate a senior class of eight and will look to build on the 2023 progress under first-year head coach
