www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball returned to CUNYAC play Saturday morning with a tri-match hosted by the City College of New York Beavers inside Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Cardinals fell in straight sets (25-7, 25-5, 25-12) to CCNY (6-7, 1-4 CUNYAC) before being outplayed by the Baruch College Bearcats (7-7, 4-0 CUNYAC) in three sets (25-6, 25-5 25-14).
Match 1: CCNY 3, York 0 (25-7, 25-5, 25-12)
First Set Breakdown
- York got off to a slow start, hitting -.333 in the opening set as CCNY jumped ahead with a 10-1 lead.
- CCNY went on a 12-2 run to make it match point at 24-5.
- Andrea Wright answered for York with a kill before serving an ace to cut the deficit to 24-7.
Second Set Breakdown
- Both teams went point for point to start the second set as the match was knotted at 3-all.
- CCNY replied with a 10-1 run and scored 12-unanswered points to take the set.
Third Set Breakdown
- Playing from behind, York erased a 4-0 deficit by tallying five of the next six points to make it 5-all.
- Alicia Gumbs brought York back with a kill at 6-6 before CCNY went up for good with a 4-1 run.
- Nydasia Nivar landed two kills and Gumbs added one more to chip away at York's deficit (13-10).
- The Beavers went on a 12-2 surge to put the match away.
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs paced York to register four points with three kills on 17 attempts to hit .059 while scoping seven digs.
- Nivar followed with two kills.
- Wright nailed down one kill and served York's lone ace.
- Cherub Autar dished out two assists and contributed six digs to the defensive effort.
For CCNY
- Bianka Catral produced a match-high 15 points on eight kills and seven aces to go along with 13 digs.
- Viviana Alatorre captained CCNY's offense with 21 assists and added five aces and five digs to her stat line.
- Leondra Craig added five aces while Arianna Rivas tallied six kills, three aces and five digs.

York attacked at a rate of -.125 while the Beavers hit .258. CCNY held the advantage in points (49-10), kills (27-8), aces (21-1), assists (24-3), blocks (1-1) and digs (42-23).
Match 2: Baruch 3, York 0 (25-6, 25-5 25-14)
First Set Breakdown
- Karen Pozo Castro served 13 consecutive points including five aces to stake Baruch an early 13-0 lead.
- York answered by scoring three-straight points to pull within 10 points.
- Baruch replied with a 12-3 spurt to take the opening set.
Second Set Breakdown
- After falling behind 5-0, Gumbs slammed down Samantha Panameno's feed to put the Cardinals on the board.
- The Bearcats used a 9-0 run to take a 19-point lead (23-4) and later closed out the stanza with Caroline Elfner's ace.
Third Set Breakdown
- In the final set, York went toe to toe with the Bearcats in the early goings.
- With the opening point going to Baruch, Panameno registered a kill to level the score for York.
- Leading 3-2, Panameno then served up an ace on Emilie Kaziu to make it a 4-2 match.
- Baruch bounced back by scoring eight of the next 10 points to grab a 10-6 advantage.
- York got as close as two points on a pair of occasions as Madison Plaza aced Kaziu to slice Baruch's lead (10-8).
- Timely kills by Gumbs, Shamonie Miller and Nivar kept York in the match, but Baruch proved to me too much by closing the set on a 15-6 scoring spree.
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs hit a team-best .286 with two kills on seven attempts
- Wright chipped in one kill and one block solo.
- Samantha moved York's offense with three assists and one ace.
- Miller stood out defensively with a team-leading six digs.
For Baruch
- Emilie Kaziu went for a match-high 11 points on six kills and five aces.
- Elana Vaysburd sparked Baruch with seven kills, followed by Lizaveta Kushner's six.
- Pozo Castro racked up 21 assists and seven aces.
Inside the Box Score
York finished the match attacking at a rate of -.123 with 57 attempts compared to Baruch hitting .242 on 66 swings. Both teams drew even in blocks (1-1) while Baruch owned the edge in points (55-9), kills (30-6), aces (25-1), assists (28-3) and digs (35-13).
