www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball returned to action Thursday evening playing tough against the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (8-8), but fell in straight sets (25-8, 25-8, 25-9) in a non-conference battle from York College Gymnasium.
First-Set Breakdown
- Pratt claimed the first six points after two kills from Josie Johnson and three aces by Gabby Genduso.
- The Cardinals responded with a mini 5-3 run to make the score 9-5.
- Buoyed by the serve of Emma Leavey, the Cannoneers went on an 8-0 spurt to push the advantage to 17-5.
- A well placed kill from Samantha Panameno cut the deficit to 10 (17-7).
- Johnson's kill closed out the first set with Pratt winning 25-8.
Second-Set Breakdown
- Shooting out of a cannon, Pratt started out the second stanza with a 10-0 edge.
- York fought back, as kills by Alicia Gumbs and Andrea Wright facilitated a 7-4 run that sliced the deficit to seven (14-7).
- Answering the call, the Cannoneers finished the period off scoring 10 of the final 11 points.
Third-Set Breakdown
- Both teams traded points to start the set.
- Pratt went on an 8-2 run to give them a 10-4 lead.
- Following four straight by the Cannoneers, an attack error gave York breathing room.
- After a block from Jachimma Onwuamaegbu, Pratt went on a 6-2 surge.
- Pratt concluded the set by scoring four unanswered points.
Leading the Cardinals
- Panameno led the way with a career-high two kills to go along with three aces, five digs, and three assists.
- Onwuamaegbu and Wright tallied a block apiece.
- Gumbs and Miller paced the Cardinals with one kill and one ace each.
- Jasmine Vega recorded a team-high eight digs.
For Pratt
- Leavey served up a match-high seven aces to go along with nine digs.
- Johnson anchored Pratt with 14 points on eight kills and six aces to go along with seven digs.
- Genduso's 14 assists moved the Cannoneers offense.
- Olivia Julich recorded a match-high 12 kills and 19 total attacks. Receiving the ball, Julich tallied seven digs.

York attacked at a rate of -.179 while the Cannoneers hit .279. Pratt held the advantage in points (56-8), kills (29-6), aces (23-0), assists (27-6), blocks (4-2) and digs (34-19).
