First-half tally paces @yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer against Lehman

York College returns to the pitch Saturday (Oct. 14) in a CUNYAC home encounter against Brooklyn College

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer battled Wednesday afternoon against the Lehman College Lightning (4-4, 3-0 CUNYAC), ultimately falling 8-1 in a CUNYAC home affair from Roy Wilkins Park. 

First-Half Breakdown
  • York's Kervin Mondesir tested Lehman goalkeeper Daniel Morales three minutes in, opening up the scoring opportunities for the Cardinals.
  • A back-and-forth affair early in the stanza, Cardinal netminder George Molina made four clutch saves in the opening 22 minutes to keep the score at 0-0.
  • The Lightning took a 1-0 lead at the 23:35 mark when Ebenezer Otto slotted home a pass from midfielder Demetrios Argyros.
  • Argyros recorded his second assist of the match in the 35th minute after setting up Brandon Dennis for a 2-0 lead. Otto got his brace two minutes later following a pass from Dennis.
  • Attempting a comeback, Marvin Mondesir forced Morales into a save before bundling one home seven minutes before halftime. 
Second-Half Breakdown
  • Cameron Dennis pushed Lehman's advantage to 4-1 nine minutes after the restart.
  • Peppering the Cardinal net with shots, the Lightning made the score 5-1 at 57:02 when Phillip Osei assisted Adam Kowalski.
  • Always attacking, Marvin Mondesir forced Morales into an excellent save in the 66th minute to keep the score at 5-1.
  • Mondesir had a team-high eight shots and three attempts on goal.
  • Johan Martinez Moran tacked on two goals in 12 minutes to extend Lehman's edge to 7-1 with over six minutes of action.
  • Eddy Vimos tapped home a goal with the final kick of the match to close out an 8-1 victory for the Lightning.
Inside the Box Score
Outside of the scoreline, Lehman maintained the advantage in shots (32-12), shots on target (22-6), and corners (7-4). Molina (0-4) defended York's goal by turning away fourteen shots as Morales (2-1) recorded five saves for Lehman.
