MORRISTOWN, NJ --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer team (1-1-0) lost to the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles (2-2-1) 4-0 in their second non-conference encounter this season. It was the second match between the schools in as many years, with last year's meeting finishing 2-2 in overtime.
"The men played well. Throughout these few games, we've learned a lot about ourselves as individuals and as a unit. And so far, I'm proud of the way we are playing together. [Specifically], Jaden Brown showed his class. [He is a] talented defender with the ability to go forward and create the mismatch." - said head coach Courtney Boothe
A close affair early on, Saint Elizabeth broke the tie in the 19th minute as forward Miguel Aristizabal
curled a free-kick past York goalkeeper Ahmed Algendy (1-1-0) for the game-winning goal
. Aristizabal's
strike was the lone goal of the opening half.
Saint Elizabeth doubled its advantage as DJ Aboussleman's second-half brace put the Eagles ahead, 2-0. In the 60th minute, Aboussleman's first goal came via a scorcher from over twenty-five yards. Just 48 seconds later, Aboussleman slotted away a perfectly weighted cutback from Marvin Miranda into an empty net, effectively sealing the match. Midfielder Ethan Mosquera added to the tally to settle the 4-0 final with a penalty late at the 82:52 mark.
Stanley Sanchez attempt in the eighth minute was York's lone attempt of the game as the Eagles finished with the advantage in shots (26-1), shots on goal (8-0) and corner kicks (5-0). Algendy turned away four shots while Stephen Valencia Torres (2-2-1) earned the Eagles' clean sheet.
The Cardinals (1-1-0) return to College Point Field in Flushing to host the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (2-2-0) on Monday (Sept. 19) at 3 PM. The last meeting between the programs saw the Gryphons edge it 3-2 in 2019.
